We'll be traveling to New Zealand in February. Want to know the easiest way to buy a temporary cell phone to use there. I hear they are readily available in grocery stores, etc. Has anyone used one? thanks!
We visit NZ every 3 years and usually buy a cheap handset and load a Pay As You Go SIM Usually from somewhere like the Dick Smith electrical stores but last time (earlier this year) from a Vodaphone store because they had a good PAYG plan going at the time. I think it cost about 50 NZ dollars including some starter airtime. Only downside was that the handset was bright pink! We donate the handset to a charity store when we leave NZ.
Alternatively you could buy a cheap unlocked suitable handset in the USA from somewhere like eBay and just buy a local SIM when you get there.
