Where have you stayed in Cartagena? We - late 60's, one light sleeper - will be there Dec. 27, 2017 - Jan. 1, 2018, after two weeks in Panama. Like historic, atmospheric, walkable areas & places to stay & eat, but aren't ruling out Hiltons & their ilk. Under $150 a night possible? Will we want AC? Any info appreciated, on anything Cartagenean.
I'm going to Cartagena this April for 4 nights and staying at the Casa La Fe, which is in the walled city. It had good recommendations, free airport transfers, AC, breakfast, a nice pool, and was around $100/night. I booked directly with them and saved on the Hotels.com rate. You can find nicer hotels for a little more money, too, at least from what I saw in my research. If you'd like, I'll let you know how it is after my trip. I booked a first floor room, which they stated on the site was noisier, so I won't be able to give you a good description of sound levels though.
Look places to stay inside the walled city, it is beautiful. Maybe a little more expensive than outside but the atmosphere is really great. Be sure to walk on the murallas and drink something while watching the sunset.
And, it's Colombia, with an o!!
Last year we stayed at Hotel Alfiz. It's in the old town, and a very charming property. Our room was at the back and very quiet. We also enjoyed their small pool for a cooling off break in the middle of the sightseeing day. Staff was excellent and so were the breakfasts. Can't comment on price as it was part of our longer two week tour of Colombia.
