Any suggestions for a good destination for a solo Caribbean vacation. I am looking to spend 4-5 days on a personal retreat-style get-away, so not interested in all-inclusives or group tours, but do prioritize safety, quiet, nice walkable beaches. Last time I did a trip like this, almost 10 years ago, I went to Tulum and stayed in a small boutique hotel. It was perfect, but Tulum is too built up now. Suggestions of specific islands and specific small hotels/rentals are most appreciated! For further context, I am a middle-aged, fit woman who wants to be able to walk and swim safely.
While I have never gone to any Caribbean islands solo, I do have suggestions for some islands that I have been to that I felt had nice walkable beaches and "feel safe" but we didn't stay in a boutique hotel or a rental.
We just returned from a stay on St Kitts and Nevis. The beach was nice and walkable and the island is very safe but we stayed at the Park Hyatt . It was quiet because the hotel only seemed to be at 10-20% occupancy.
Another island to consider is Grand Cayman. It is very safe and Seven Mile Beach is there which is one of the best beaches in the world.
Yet another island that we've been to that is safe and has great beaches ( Eagle Beach and Palm Beach) is Aruba.
I have been to 10 other Caribbean islands which based on your requirements and my personal experience I would not recommend.
My favorite island destination is not in the Carribean, but in the Atlantic: Bermuda. Clean, safe, and beautiful beaches. But because it's further north, it has seasons. So the best time to go is summer.
Grand Cayman and Aruba also good suggestions.
Ooh, another vote for bermuda, and direct flights from several US cities
Another vote for Grand Cayman! The water is warm and typically calm, the snorkeling is great, it always feels safe, beautiful beaches, water is safe to drink, excellent restaurants. Very, very relaxing.
