Car Rental in U.S. - Drive To Canada

I'm thinking about flying into a U.S. city and renting a car to explore New England. I would also like to drive into Canada. Do the rental agencies allow that?

I'm sure it depends on the agency. You should ask them.

Yes. I think it was a Hertz. Rented in Portland ME and drove to NB, Halifax and PEI, returning in Portland. No problem. You just need your rental agreement to cross over into Canda (if anyone asks). Our Oregon car insurance plus credit card rental insurance benefit covered us in Canada and we waived extra insurance.

If you’re going during colder months check the fine print about snow tire requirements and rental cars.

Thanks for the replies. I don't have a specific time period in mind yet. I'm just thinking about the future. Traveling is on hold for now because my 17 year old dog requires us to be home. I doubt we would choose to go in the winter because of the perils of driving in the winter in that area.
