Being pickled and fried to a crisp is a 'vaccine'?

First day of hurricane season...great time to "reopen". And blazing hot to boot! (but the beaches are indeed gorgeous). Cancun and Playa were built entirely on tourism and couldn't survive without it.

Noticed United and American were not on the list of airlines restarting service (at least when I read the article).

Drug cartel war?

Why not? It really would not be a surprise right now.

The Yucatan has largely been spared drug cartels and related activity due to physical location...very far in proximity from the rest of the action in places like Sinaloa, etc. Plus Cancun and Maya Riviera is a major money maker for Mexico, and they can't afford to drive tourists away, so there is good police presence and security around. But just because a tourist board brings out the pom-poms and says they're "open" doesn't mean anything except they're trying to drum up business and put their best foot forward. They still have COVID cases in the region (not widely reported, of course) and they're given no info for why anyone should presume this is a safe place to travel to. By the way, I say this as a frequent traveler to the region (mostly the western part of the Yucatan away from Cancun).
