Canadian Rockies Itinerary Suggestions Needed

We will be traveling to the Canadian Rockies this September, and I am looking for suggestions in developing the second portion of our itinerary. Plans for the first part of the trip:
1) We have to fly in and out of Calgary
2) Several days in Banff National Park (staying in Canmore)
3) Visit Lake Louise and Moraine Lake (using the Parks Canada shuttle system)
4) Drive the Icefields Parkway and spend several days in Jasper National Park

After that portion, we will still have 4-5 days available on our return to Calgary for the flight home. I am looking for suggestions on areas to explore & places to stay, What are some of your "do not miss this" experiences that you have enjoyed in that part of Canada? We enjoy light hiking, beautiful scenery, local food and out of the way places. Any specific suggestions for hikes, views, etc. in Banff and Jasper would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

We did a great four day tour of all these places from Vancouver with Key West Tours and it was great. It pretty much covered the key places in the Canadian Rockies.

You could consider going to Revelstoke with your extra days. I really enjoy the town, it has some nice little restaurants and shops.

If you did go to Revelstoke you could consider at night or two at Emerald Lake Lodge. which is between Lake Louise and Revelstoke. It is pricy at that time of year, but even if you don't stay it is a nice spot to get out and walk. You can walk entirely around the lake, or just go as far as the paved path and turn back. It will be much less busy than LL. Field is a tiny little town nearby, and Takkakaw falls should be open at that time of year, unless it snows. Takkakaw falls has easy walks, and will again not be as busy.

If you decide you want to splurge on a Gondola ride in Banff I think the one at Sunshine ski hill is good, and again, less busy than the one in town. There are some nice walks up at the top there too.

Another option might be drive through to the Columbia Valley, which has several small towns and has Radium and Fairmount Hot Springs. I think this would be about the same mileage as Revelstoke for you, but maybe less on the way back to Calgary. Personally I think Revelstoke is a bit more charming, but the drive to both is quite beautiful, and if you enjoy hot springs you could stop for those at Radium. I think you need to stay over at Fairmount to access theirs now.

Okanagan Valley, definitely.

From Jasper to Vernon is a 6 hour drive down the North Thompson River valley. Your route will take you through Canada's desert region around Kamloops BC. Vernon itself is at the north end of Okanagan Lake, a lake about 100 km long, home of Ogopogo (Loch Ness Monster's cousin). The main city is Kelowna, about 40 km further south, city of about 250,000 people, and centre of the Okanagan Wine Country. Penticton at the end of the lake is famous for peach orchards (the whole valley is orchard after orchard, and the fruits very from apple to pear to cherry to peach as you move south).

I grew up in Vernon and lived many years in Kamloops. These places are close to my heart. I hope you check them out!

I appreciate everyone's suggestions, and will do further research on them. Thank you for the help in my planning.
