bringing OTC meds and Prescription Drugs in to Japan

I am just confirming what I feel that I already may know.

I am nervous.

I am aware that i can bring in up to two months supply of OTC meds and up to one month supply of prescription meds. I am talking about Japan.

I went back and looked at some earlier questions and responses.

It appears that I can bring in opened bottles of both prescription and OTC products. The bottles do not have to be sealed.

It is the number of pills that i have in each bottle that is important.

Am I right?

Because by nature, I am a nervous person and this is a big trip. My first time going to Japan! And it feels like there is so much to do even though it is coming along.

I always feel like I can not get it all done even though I do get it all done.

I am like this every trip but then when i get to the airport, I become so mellow. The getting ready is over and now I am going.

And I end up sleeping on the plane most of the way to my destination.

Japan has very specific rules, sounds like you have looked those up, be in compliance best you can, and relax.

I am aware that i can bring in up to two months supply of OTC meds and up to one month supply of prescription meds....It is the number of pills that i have in each bottle that is important.

Yes, you take one per day, then 30 prescription pills (or so, mainly dependent also on the length of the trip...so two week trip, take 14 doses, plus maybe a buffer, not the full 30 days) Over 30 days worth? I think that takes extra paperwork if I recall.

For "as needed" meds, use your best judgement, but no more than the sum of the typical daily dose..

Most importantly, relax.

Thank you Lisa and Paul and also Claudia from earlier

I already know that my meds are allowed.

I had them packed away but then a bolt of lightning hit me. I had packed away bottles that were unsealed and had the full amount of pills. And there were too many. The realization hit me out of nowhere.

So i am just confirming that I can bring in opened bottles. I am going to open them and count out only what I am allowed minus one or two just to be safe.

Paul, I am always like this before a trip. I find it hard to relax. But once I get to the airport and sit down, the stress leaves my body and I am fully relaxed. Everything melts away.

Open bottles are fine, just make sure they're the original. If you happen to have a copy of your prescription, it doesn't hurt to bring it along.

Thank you Coffee Girl

my pills will be in the original plastic bottle.

My information and the prescription are clearly written on the bottle.

We were just in Japan this past March/April. My husband takes 4 different prescription drugs. He took them in their original pill case, with no paperwork. Nothing happened, no one checked, no one asked anything about them.
Also, he doesn’t count them out, he just brings them all. Definitely more then a 30 day supply.
I wouldn’t worry.

Chances are, they are not even go to stop you.

As long as the amount of medication is less than 30 days worth, take the amount of medication you need for your trip and a few days extra "just in case" of delays.

Have copies of your prescriptions. Make sure the name on the prescription is yours. If your passport says Phyll make sure the prescription does not say Jane.

You'll be fine.

Thank you Barkinpark and Frank II

I am probably just over reacting now that the trip gets close.
