Boston - Nantucket in June?

Hi,

I am looking forward to vacationing in Boston in June!

What's the best location for a hotel? Something for everyone - we have 5 in the family with all grown children (20, 25, 27 years old) so being near the nightlife would be good and want to eat at great restaurants, see the Red Sox play, and travel to Nantucket to relax for a few days as well.

For Nantucket, let me know if staying in town is the way to go and favorite spots on this island.

We have a little over 1 week!

Thanks,
Sharon

IMO, for Boston, stay as near as you can to the central core of the old town area. Much of the historic stuff - Old North Church, USS Constitution, Bunker Hill, etc., is walkable from there. Subway to Fenway park. Dont stay in the Copley Square area as that is mostly business hotels.

We lived in the Boston area for a couple of years and have returned recently for conferences. Our favorite place to stay for walkability and restaurants is in Back Bay along Newbury street. We could walk to Fenway, the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum and downtown easily. Our B&B, the Newbury Guest House, had limited parking in back. It sounds like you'll have a car if you are heading to Nantucket too.

Hi there- do you have a particular budget for the hotel? I would suggest staying in the Copley square/Newbury street area or the waterfront/north end area.

When in June are you going? Nantucket in June will be a little hit or miss weather wise. If it’s the beginning of June you will want to stay in town but if it’s the end of June staying near the beach might be better. If you are bringing a car to the island, be sure to reserve this on the ferry ahead of time.

Boston is relatively compact compared to other cities and it's easy enough to get around by public transit and walking. I'd caution against having a rental car in the city - parking is expensive. With adult children coming along, I'd suggest looking for a hotel in Cambridge - lots to do in the area and they'll find a good selection of restaurants and nightlife in the areas around Harvard, Kendall Square/MIT and Davis Square.

Not sure how you were looking to split your time, but book something soon for Nantucket especially if you are traveling later in June as some places will require a certain number of nights you must book with them during their busy season.

If you want to stay on Nantucket you need to make a reservation ASAP. It's one of the most popular places for travel on the east coast and becomes booked up for the summer months well in advance. I would highly recommend looking on VRBO or Airbnb at this point to find a house that you can rent for a few days. You'll pay through the nose most likely but it will be a great experience - it's one of the nicest places you can visit in the east and very classic in every way.

When I went to Boston with a rental car I parked it at a T Station and used the subway during the time we were there. They have free parking for up to 7 days. Well, that was the case in 2009 anyway. A car would be a huge PITA in Boston.

Nantucket is pricey and if you haven't reserved yet, do so ASAP before you are out of luck. It is simply beautiful. Boston -- consider Beacon Hill, downtown, Back Bay, and Kenmore. As with Nantucket, reserve in Boston as soon as you can. It too will be pricey.

Do yourself a favor, do not bring a car to Nantucket, no need.
