Boston Hotels

One of my younger relatives will be starting college this Fall at Boston University, and we are planning a trip to Boston to visit them. I am looking for hotel recommendations in the BU vicinity from people who have stayed in the area, preferably post-pandemic.

No need to tell me to Google. I have found a few places that I like, but I would like to get some input from people I trust on this forum.

My budget is a bit higher than normal - I can go up to $350 for the right place.

Thanks for your help.

We didn't find anything close to $350/night in Boston, so if you've found something at that rate, I'd consider booking it (making sure it can be cancelled) while you wait for answers for others. Such an expensive city.

When do plan to visit? If the fall, forget finding anything below $350. But if you don’t mind the winter, you can find good deals.

Mid-April when the Boston marathon is run is also an expensive time.

Well, I guess I'll have to increase my budget! Do either of you have hotels to recommend at a higher price point?

Years ago I stayed at the Westin at Copley Place. But more recently I’ve stayed in Cambridge. As the crow flies the Cambridge Residence Inn is close to BU but it would be a long walk or the T using the Red Line with a transfer to the Green Line. I liked the Residence Inn and would stay there again.

So much depends on when you go. Prices vary wildly by time of year and whether there is a big event in the city or an event in the area you wish to stay. If you go in December or February, you can easily find hotels under $350 (well the base price anyway, maybe not after parking and taxes), however try to go in May and those same hotels will be double. Forget it if there is any type of event going on. Unfortunately I have no suggestions near BU as I usually stay either around Faneuil Hall, the theatre district or Seaport, none of which are near BU. If you could provide the month during which you are planning to travel, someone more familiar with that area may be able to offer suggestions.

Also keep in mind that 2026 is the Sestercentennial. There might be more events planned around that.

I often stay in that area but not because its near BU, but because its near Fenway Park! Two places we have used are Inn and Longwood Medical (near all the hospitals) and Longwood Inn (across the Emerald Necklace in Brookline). They are both alright, good for the price because Boston is SO expensive.

I was also going to suggest the Inn at Longwood as convenient. Although I have never stayed there. There are many hotels in the Longwood area because of their proximity to all of those hospitals. The Inn at Longwood is listed by Dana Farber as a place to stay along with the Residence Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, the Westin at Copley and several others. Here's the list. Note that the first page is actually for patients (which I hope you never will need to use). https://dfci.widen.net/s/lpssdxvbp8/short-term-accommodations-list.pdf
