Borneo for xMas

I'm headed to Borneo for the xmas holiday.
I was hoping to rent a car and tour the NORTH side of the island, with 2day's (at the end of the trip) in Brunei.

Does anyone have first hand experience on the island?

Any recommendations or web addresses I should review are much appreciated.
