Big Island Hawaii Lodging

In September I am taking my family to Hawaii and had a house in Hilo reserved for four nights, 9/1-9-5. We stayed there two years ago and knew the owner had it up for sale, but she said she was asking much more for it than she thought someone would pay. Well, someone did pay and now I need to find a new place. We are looking for a house, villa or condo in or around Hilo since the east side of the island is our focus this time. and want at least two bedrooms and prefer three. Would like oceanfront if possible, but might settle for ocean view instead if everything else is there. I found a number of places on VRBO but I've noticed in planning this two-week trip that VRBO is charging a fee of just over 8% to use their service. I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions you may have and/or information about any places you may have stayed on the Big Island. Thank you.

Jim,
Wish I had an apartment/B&B referral for the Hilo area for you. Used to live there from 1985-1996. Sadly, I don't have the connections anymore. Stayed recently at The Hilo Seaside and was pretty satisfied with the room. It may not work for your situation but if you end up considering the Seaside, ask for a room away from the front of the hotel. We encountered some noise from other guests walking past our room. Overall, though we enjoyed our stay there.

I want to thank you again for the help you gave me when I travelled to New Orleans about 1 1/2 years ago.
