Belize- Tour from San Ignacio to Tikal suggestions

Hello fellow travelers!
I hope someone can give me some suggestions about a tour from San Ignacio to Tikal. Does anyone have any experience or advice about this particular trip? We are not going for a few months, so we are trying to plan a few things.
In addition, any other Belieze suggestions/advice would be great. We will be staying in San Ignacio and Ambergris Caye. We may do some snorkeling, but we aren't likely to scuba dive. We are also interested in ancient Mayan ruins.
Thanks in advance everyone!

My info is 30 years old but it still may help. We stayed at an eco resort called Chaa Creek and they arranged a driver to Tikal and a tour of Tikal and a stay overnight there. It was fantastic and at the time not very expensive. Then we flew down to Placencia Village on a small prop plane, stayed in a tiny beach resort run by an ex-pat Econ prof and we took a boat out to the reef where I scuba dove and my wife snorkeled. We also hit various mayan ruins -- though the names escape me at the moment-- and saw the Belize zoo.

In any case, Chaa Creek looks like it has gone more upscale since we were there-- no electricity in the cabanas when we stayed-- but their website shows they still arrange vacation packages and have really upscale accommodations now.

Happy travels.

It isn't clear whether you are trying to do a day trip or are more flexible.

We, family of 4, did this about 5-6 years ago. We were only traveling one way but you can always reverse this.

Took a taxi from San Ignacio to the border. Walked across the border into Guatemala. Found a local taxi and had him take us straight to Tikal where we had reservations for the night in one of the 2 or 3 hotels just outside the park entrance. Cost of the 2nd cab was about $45 at that time. Enjoyed the full morning walking Tikal and then after lunch caught one of the empty vans returning to Flores.

I would recommend staying overnight in TIkal if you have the flexibility since it allow you to enter the park early when there are few people around.

When we were in San Ignacio, we did visit the ruins at Xunantunich Mayan ruins which was small and great to wander about

We loved the cave tubing we did as a land excursion from our dive resort. It was a definite highlight of our trip (other than learning to dive!).

It's been a few years. We stayed in Ka'ana Resort and hired a private driver/guide to take us to Tikal for a day trip, including a stop for lunch. I think we arranged it through the resort. We really enjoyed the day!

Hi. My husband and I visited Belize over twelve years whennwe owned a condo on Ambergris Caye. We sold it in 2017 so my info is dated but here is my advice. Definitely get a tour from San Ignacio to Tikal. This can be arranged through your hotel or even in town if you do not arrange in advance. You will have to switch taxis at the border but your tour guide will navigate you through and stay with you throughout the day. The tours usually stop along the way at a “tourist” stop. Be prepared for armed soldiers along the way. Tikal is magnificent! Another Mayan ruin you could visit from San Ignacio is Caracol. The road in is very rough and you need to travel with a military convoy so very few people visit, certainly no big bus tours. We did it our selves because we thought we knew the country well enough. We were wrong. We had a difficult time getting through with a jeep, we’re encouraged to “tip” to get through and were escorted by armed guards while at the site. Six months after our visit there was a murder there due to an ongoing Belizean/Guatemalan feud. Get a guide and proceed with caution but a very neat site.

There are many day tours from Ambergris Caye. The Altun Ha Ruins are popular but the Lamani ruins are special with the added benefit of a short trip down a jungle river. If you only do one, I suggest Lamani. There are also many half and full day snorkel trips. The ones that include a beach barbecue with the catch of the day are especially fun. Shark Ray alley has lots of nurse sharks and other fish.

We went to Belize a few years ago and stayed a few nights in San Ignacio taking several tours through viator (I think that was the name). We were picked up at the Belize city airport and privately driven to San Ignacio. Stayed there for 2 nights after taking a private tour of the ruins. Also did a cave tour and rafting and zip line adventure. Headed to San Pedro and spent remainder of week at Ramon’s! Did snuba (I will never do that again) my husband fished and we did a one day catamaran/snorkel trip which was amazing. We loved it there- people very friendly and they speak English and use same currency as we do. We are considering returning and renting a different place each week in 4 different areas for a month. So that is my question- is anyone familiar with the area Corazal and any air b and b there? Thank you
