Hello, My husband and I have traveled extensively and just returned from Africa. For a change of pace, he wants to chill on a beautiful beach with crystal-clear water this July. (Our dates are not flexible.) I know much of the Caribbean is in the hurricane zone, so places will likely be hot and humid. We will be flying from PHL or EWR. Your recommendations for where to go and a top-notch place to stay would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
It will be just as hot, but you won't have to worry about hurricane evacuation at least.
Sardinia is the place for Caribbean-worthy beaches (#1 on my next place to go list). The southern Ionian is nice too--near Gallipoli.
I am very partial to the beaches of Croatia also.
In Spain, I'd seek out the beaches of the northern coast in July.
In Greece, I'd look at the area south east of Thessaloniki (another on my next list)
What kind of beaches do you like? Formal with services vs. natural, etc.
Since you posted this in "Beyond Europe" perhaps you'd be interested in Hawaii - wide variety of accommodations and each island has its own unique charms. It's my favorite place to chill out and enjoy warm, clear water, great food, beautiful scenery.
Yes I automatically sprung to Europe (when you link from first page, you might miss that it's in the Beyond section, my bad).
I wonder about northern Brazil (yes I know it is winter there in July, but it reportedly does not get terribly cold in northern Brazil according to my research, and I was told some of the best beaches are in the north of the country).
Thank you all for your ideas! Keep then coming....this is opening my eyes to options. Thank you!
Tahiti or other "South Pacific" destination perhaps?
It’s not wild or unusual but the Florida panhandle from Panama City west to Pensacola has beautiful white sand beaches, crystal clear water and very little surf. It’s as familiar as Africa is exotic! Good luck with whatever you decide!
Canary Islands are another beautiful possibility. If you've already been to Hawai'i, the Canaries provide an interesting counterpoint.
paisha,
Hawaii...need I say more?
I’m just back from a week in Kauai and we’re already planning our return. Sounds like exactly what you’re looking for. In the summer, I would suggest the north shore for snorkeling or beach days. The water will be more calm than in the south side. The entire island is just so gorgeous.
I wouldn't go to the northern coast of Spain for a beach vacation at any time of the year. The area is beautiful, but it also rainy and cloudy much of the time.
