Banff and Jasper July 2025

Has anyone spent time in Jasper recently? How affected are the main sites to see/landscape by last year’s fires? Would it be better to wait and visit another time? Perhaps going to Kooteney instead?
Also, any tips for a good Banff and surrounding area itinerary is appreciated. We enjoy short hikes- 3miles or so, along with scenic drives, and some exploration of the iconic hotels, and downtown areas. We will be staying for about a week in the area.
Thanks in advance!!

One of the most spectacular things about Jasper is the drive on the Icefields Parkway from Lake Louise to Banff and it was mainly unaffected. You'll notice where the fire was but there is still plenty of beauty and if you love nature and beautiful scenery I'm sure you won't be disappointed. On your way from Lake Louise, make a stop at Peyto Lake for a short hike.

The Fairmont Banff Springs and Chateau Lake Louise are the only iconic hotels in Banff National Park and both worth a look. There is a short drive north of Banff called the Minnewanka Loop that you'll sometimes see wildlife along the edge of the road. There are a couple of hikes at Lake Louise, most people go uphill toward the teahouse but I prefer the walk west to the other end of the lake away from the hotel. A hike around Moraine Lake is nice as well.

Have you booked parking and a bus yet to get you to Lake Louise and Moraine Lake? Vehicle traffic is restricted in the summer and you need to park at a designated lot and take a bus in. https://parks.canada.ca/pn-np/ab/banff/visit/parkbus/louise/renseignements-sur-le-stationnement-parking-information

As Allan alluded to about the drive from Banff to Lake Louise—while both Jasper and Banff National Parks are beautiful—- one of the highlights is the spectacular scenery on the highway linking the two.

This is a case of it being more about the journey than the destination. ( Except the destinations are also magnificent)!

Moraine Lake and Lake Louise, though, are must sees. And if you can work in brunch at the Chateau Lake Louise, the dining room has views you will never forget.

Have a great trip to Canada!
