We will be in bali for our honeymoon for 10 days in June. Relaxation, spa treatments, swimming, snorkeling & dining are on the menu. We are thinking Seminyak and Ubud. How much time in each? Other places to visit on Bali? Plan to stay at 3 to 4 star properties. Recommendations appreciated. Would love a private pool adjoining the room. Thanks.
I recommend staying at least a few nights in Ubud, which is more inland and where you see the classic rice terraces. It’s so green and lush and more authentic, although it has become crowded. Seminyak is also a great place to stay and is more the lay-around-the-beach-and-pool type place. There are some very nice resorts and there's some nightlife and good restaurants without it feeling like a young, backpacker-type crowd. Lonely Planet has some good recommendations for lodging there.
I stayed in a small place in Ubud called the Oka Wati Hotel. It was so lovely. The owner, Oka Wati, is an adorable older woman. They bring you the most delicious banana pancakes, fresh fruit and smoothies every morning and have beautiful rooms and a nice pool. In Ubud, try to take a day tour to some of the local temples and rice terraces. I liked the Tirta Empul and Goa Gajah temples. If you hire a driver though (which is very cheap) they will take you to all the top spots.
Other highlights of Ubud: the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary is worth a day of wandering through. Eat at Warung Ibu Oka, a world famous restaurant (more like a little hut) for suckling pig. For a special treat, go to the Four Seasons in Ubud for happy hour. It's in a gorgeous location.
Outside Ubud I would take a day trip to Ulu Watu temple and see a Kechak performance. Along that same coast line is Jimbaran, where they have restaurants set up on the beach and you can eat the freshest seafood you can imagine. Near Jimbaran is Ayana Resort where it's fun to have a drink & happy hour at The Rock Bar, which is actually on a cliff jutting out into the ocean. On the opposite side of the coast, Tanah Lot temple is worth a visit around sunset.
I used Ketut Zabeth as my driver with Di Bali Transport (http://dibalitour.com). He is super nice, although so is everyone in Bali! I did a great day trip to Mt. Batur. Ketut picked us up at 4 a.m. and we had a guide take us up the mountain, arriving at the summit at sunrise. We then visited this amazing little village where they have a very unique cemetery. We had lunch looking across at Mt. Batur and then visited a hot springs. It was a great day. Bali is fantastic, you'll love it!
Hello omgirl.travel1,
You have a good itinerary in mind. How did the trip go? What activities did you engage to that is not part of your plan? Where did you mostly stayed?
Very interested in hearing about your travels. My husband and I are taking three months to explore the Pacific Rim - Hawaii, Tahiti, New Zealand, Australia, Bali from mid-November 2015 to early March 2016, and would like recommendations for the best way to get to/from, recommendations for places (including other destinations in the Pacific) to visit, things to do. Also, I am an avid knitter. I've checked out some local forums on Ravelry, but suggestions for fiber festivals/activities are also most welcome. FWIW, I'm thinking I would like to take a repositioning cruise home at the conclusion of our trip, but my husband would prefer flying. Many thanks.
