Recently returned from ten days in Bali. My first visit ten years ago was wonderful as we explored much of the island by Jeep and avoided Denpasar. Today it's paradise lost, destroyed by mass tourism. Even on the North coast traffic was horrible even in low season. The beautiful living coral of West Bali National Park is now brown, killed by the rising ocean temperature. On a positive note, Segara Village Hotel is a beautiful, quiet, lush property on the beach in Sanur.

Same story in much of the world, unfortunately. No shortage of similar laments about other places. You need to do a little work to get beyond the places that are being loved to death.
