Hi, I'm planning a 1-month trip to Australia and need to get from Alice Springs to Uluru on Thursday, October 29. None of the bus coaches (AAT Kings, Emu, Center Bush) run on that date--which is weird, I know. Does anyone know of either a bus company, public transport option, or other way to get between these two towns? TIA
To clarify, Uluru is not a town it is a geological feature.
There is a purpose built resort town called Yulara about 20kms away. Yulara is the only place near Uluru with accommodation and services. Yulara is really just a huge holiday park smack bang in the middle of nowhere.
Yulara is about 500 kms from Alice Springs. I think you will find buses only operate 2 to 3 days per week between the Alice and Yulara. I would suggest contacting either Alice Springs or Yulara tourist info. to see what options might be available on that day. Otherwise a change of date perhaps. It seems buses are available on the day before and day after your choice of date.
If desperate, perhaps you could hire a car and drive from Alice Springs to where you need to go near Uluru? The road is sealed and around 4 hrs driving (did it many years ago without a problem), but does take some planning Or, as suggested above, catch one of the shuttle buses which operate twice a week (but it seems not on the day of your travel). Do you need to go to Alice Springs? If not, it would probably be easier to fly direct to Ayers Rock Airport (Uluru) direct from a capital city.
That is odd, maybe it's a holiday or something. We took the AAT Kings bus from Alice Springs to Yulara village. Yes, you can fly, but I don't think from Alice Springs. We flew out of Yulara to Cairns.
Loved our time in Australia!
