August or September trip

My wife and I are in our early 70's and would like to get some ideas as to where we could go for two weeks in August or September 2018. We are in good shape physically and can do moderate hiking. We enjoy parks and studying other cultures and history. We do not care so much for beaches and the water although another cruise would not be out of the question. Since we have seen all of the US we prefer an overseas country. Just came back from Italy and will be going on a river cruise down the Rhine next June. If anyone has some good ideas they would like to share we would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Costa Rica is beautiful. There is lots of hiking from the very easy to the very challenging. There is much to be seen without hitting the beach, per se, although Manuel Antonio National Park is on the coast and simply amazing!

The wildlife in Costa Rica is breathtaking. You don't have to take a special adaptor for outlets. The US $ is widely accepted. There's no overnight flight from the US like when you visit Europe, so you can arrive and be pretty much in sync with your normal time zone, give or take an hour or so.

And the food is amazing, not to mention the coffee!

Can you tell that we really enjoyed our trip to Costa Rica? ;-)

How about Norway? It's a beautiful country with great hiking, clean air, and lots of boating. We love the Alesund area with it's wildlife on the offshore islands, the Geirangerfjord and Trollstigen Pass, as well as many winding streets to stroll in town. If you want to cruise you can take the Hurtigruten line all up and down the coast of the country, getting off where you want. There is a lot of wildlife to be seen especially up in Svalbard. The Lofoten Islands are unique with small villages along the shoreline and high peaks all around. Tromso is popular as well. Further south you can go to Bergen and Stavanger and, of course, Oslo. It's very easy to find plenty of do to fill two weeks in this country.

There are cruises to the Norwegian fjords, then on to Iceland with stops in the Faroes and Shetlands. There's a lot of sailing time, but the stops all offer what you're looking for. Or fly round-trip Reykjavik, then hop a short flight to Bergen Norway. Spend a week touring Iceland, then either overland or cruise the fjords . . . Bergen, Falm Gerainger . . .

Canada would be my suggestion. Either the Canadian Rockies (Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper) or Atlantic Canada with off-the-beaten path excursions to Cape Breton and the Gaspe Peninsula, both of which are truly delightful. Maybe finishing up in Quebec City - one of the prettiest and most underrated places you'll ever visit.
