I am traveling with Mondumo Small Group Tours to NZ in October. I am looking to spend a couple of nights extra in Auckland after the tour. Can anyone suggest a nice hotel, preferable near or on the water? Price not more that 200 USD per night.

I don't know how close you want to be to the CBD, but I had a nice stay in Takapuna at the Spencer on Byron hotel when I was visiting Auckland. It was easy walking distance to the beach and had some cute little shops and cafes in the area. I enjoyed wandering down to the water and having an ice cream while watching the waves, since it was too cold to be in the water while I was there. Not sure of your exact dates, but from a quick glance at their website, prices for this October appear to range from $104-133 USD depending on the night in question.
