We are trying to decide when to go to the Asheville/Pisgah area. Due to our schedule, we can do either a week in (early) August or a week in November (Thanksgiving week). We are a family with 3 kids, ages 8, 4, and 2. We would be going primarily to see waterfalls. My question is, which would be the best time to go to see the beautiful waterfalls? August sounds fun because we could swim in some of them. But it also sounds suuuuuper hot and I'm not sure we could do a lot of hiking in the heat. November sounds much cooler and better for hiking but we couldn't go swimming in the cold water. Any thoughts?
I lived in that area for a couple years so here's my two cents. Some of the waterfalls run all year long so you'll be able to see something at either time. Late November would be good for hiking but you'll have missed all the fall foliage. August can be warm and humid, but Asheville/Pisgah is mountainous so it isn't that bad. And in August, you can float down the French Broad river in inner tubes or rafts! Of the two times given, I'd go in August.
Waterfalls are not generally seasonal in asheville/pisgah
It will be hot in Aug but if swimming is what you want to do it will be an excellent time for that
I wouldn't personally recommend tubing the french broad through town -
if you come around thanksgiving there are opportunities to go to Biltmore and the Grove Park for holiday related decorations and events.
