Argos Destinations for travel to Egypt?

Has anyone heard of or used Argos Destinations for travel to Egypt, or anywhere? I can't find anything other than their website and a linked in profile that shows they were founded in 2023. I In partnership with a professor they are selling an approximately $10,000(!) 10 day trip to Egypt. My son is considering going on this, but it seems strange to me that they don't seem to exist on the internet, other than their own website. No reviews, nothing. I'm trying to figure out if they are legit, but not really sure where to start. Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Welcome to the board. People on this board are usually quick to jump in if they have any knowledge, so the lack of any responses likely suggests a company with a very limited (or non-existent) track record. I looked at the company website and can understand your concerns. You don't mention your son's age. If he's fairly young, there are established companies that do cheap but well-organized trips to Egypt for under $2500 plus air. Contiki comes to mind, although I believe there are others. On the high end, I recently booked a 13-day 5-star trip to Cairo and cruising down the Nile for about $7,000. per person plus air, so $10,000 sounds quite unreasonable. I hope you can convince your son to do some research before picking a tour company.

Thank you so much for responding. My son, 30 yrs old, was just here for dinner and fortunately has decided not to do the trip and I am very relieved. The whole thing set alarm bells off for me. He says it is almost sold out. I hope the people that are doing it have a good experience. Thank you also for sharing the information on more reasonable options to go to Egypt as well the cost of your high end trip. One of the main attractions for him was the professor who is sponsoring this who is apparently well regarded for his expertise in esotericism. I was able to find out a fair amount of info on him- some fine, some rather concerning, but at least there was info, so not sure if he wants to go in the future he would be interested in other options, but you never know. Thank you again for your response.

havilan20,
If he still wants to visit Egypt..... we went with Trafalgar Tours in 2019, arranged through AAA travel, and it was nowhere near $10,000 for 2 of us. (Is $10,000.00 for 2 people or 1?) We were very happy with our 10 night, 11 day tour and had a college teacher as our fantastic guide. There were 39 people in our group, but contrary to what many believe, it was not a cattle car experience and everyone had a good time (wide range of ages). He doesn't need to spend anywhere near $10,000.00 per person. He could pick an established tour company and have a wonderful experience in Egypt! I hope he does visit there.

Argos Destinations. Aubrey Bombard. A NIGHTMARE. Avoid this travel group. I. There was no mention of a 6 hour drive 2ways. By the time I found out, I could only get 25% refund. 2. She is unprofessional instead of trying to accommodate, She says you are being un-harmonious. Which can completely kick you from the tour.(no refund) I highly advise avoid this tour. I haven’t even started the tour and was threatened if I’m not harmonious I’ll be kicked. I’ll update for future events. I can’t emphasize enough avoid them. Also places were taken off the tour and she said she would donate the money. WTF. A tax deduction for her. It’s possible by posting this, she will retaliate, but if I can stop anyone from making the mistake of picking Argosdestinations, good. I saved them a nightmare.

Argos destinations nightmare. The 6 hour drive 2 ways. Aubrey the ceo said even the president drives there. I said a president would probably take a helicopter. There are two other options which she lied saying we had to drive. Everyone wants to go down the Nile, that is an option. A train is listed under the eco site on how to get here.
Also if you are sick and want to leave a museum early, she charges $100 to drive you back to the hotel which is just a few miles.
The eco site of bed situation shows two beds
adjacent to each other and you are told you have to share a room. Still waiting for the eco lodge to respond to me. There will be more bad reviews but they probably fear getting kicked off the tour for making a review. Is that legal?
I should mention the only reason I picked this tour is to listen to Dr.Sledge.

Thank you for posting your experience. I'm so sorry this has been such a nightmare for you.

I’d be a bit wary if there's not much info out there about them, especially since they're so new. I’ve had experiences with companies that seemed promising at first but didn’t have much of a digital footprint, and it can be a gamble. It might help to contact people who know the professor or even ask the company directly for past trip details. If your son is serious about going, it could also be worth reaching out to some travel forums or checking reviews on platforms like Trustpilot to see if anyone has mentioned them. Just be sure to cover all the bases, like travel insurance, in case things don’t go as planned.

$10,000 for 10 days, way too expensive.

Compare with other tour companies. We did Gate 1 Travel a couple of years ago that included airfare from JFK, two river cruises and of course several days in the Cairo area in five star hotels. Cost per person was about $3500 that included tips.
Viking is good, but their cost was almost double Gate 1.
Check at least five companies.

I visited Egypt many years ago and it was among the best trips of my life. If my bucket list were not so large I would be wanting to go back many more times. Wonderful country, wonderful people and facinating in every regard.

Now, having said all of that, I do want to point out that Egypt is currently Level 3 with the US State Department. Parts of it are Level 4. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/egypt-travel-advisory.html

Would this keep me from going? No. A few weeks ago i was in a Level 4 country with some Level 3 areas. But I did a lot of research on the one thing that concerned me: getting sick or injured while there. To my dismay I discovered that my Medical Insurance would not cover anything that happened in that country. I have an Allianz Expat policy, but I have been told that the Alianz (and many other) Travel Insurance policies are the same in their exclusion of Level 3 and Level 4 countries.

My US Medicare Advantage Policy would also exclude reimbursment for anything that happened outside of the US. The big question then was, would my US policy cover ongoing care once I returned to the US. For that I had a lot less luck getting a definintive answer. An insurance broker I know did warn me that there would be a very real chance that since the incident wasnt a covered expense that the US policy would treat on going care, in the US, in the same way they would a pre-existing condition ... which might mean no coverage for some period of time ... maybe six months.

The country in question did require that visitors buy a local policy that would cover expenses up to 30.000 euro, so its not like I would have zero coverage. I gambled and I went. Had a great time.

I suggest you do some insurance shopping/research along with the planning just so you know what you have if the need should arise. Maybe the Egyptian government or some Egyptian travel agency sells something? Then when you find coverage, come back here and list it. I have another trip in mind and might could use it.
