Argentina.... Fiesta de la Tradicion("Gaucho festival") outside Buenos Aires...??

I have up to 10 days to take a trip in November and am thinking about mixing about a week in Buenos Aires preceded by two nights at an estancia outside the town of San Antonio de Areco, about an hour or so outside the city, where a big event occurs every November. Just curious if anyone has been to San Antonio de Areco and what your comments are about the town and the Fiesta de la Tradición.

I've been to Buenos Aires once before.... should attempt to find some (very hard to come by) tickets to a soccer game...or any special treats that we could enjoy???....I can't stay up late enough to go to another milonga but we love tango and would love to hear recommendations on good restaurants in the city. Last time we thought CABNA DE LAS LILAS was the tops...we are open to anyplace with great local food.....any type of restaurants is fine....as long as food is great. We plan on eating a lot of meat on this trip.

Will probably stay in Recoleta; I'd like to be able to walk around and explore while my partner relaxes at the pool of the hotel, as he cannot walk very far, so this trip will involve many taxis, I'm afraid!!

Ok..not receiving any answers to the question about San Antonio de Areco...we may spend the first two nights there to attend the festival, and then head t BA for the rest our vacation...

What about Buenos Aires, in November (??)

I've only been once, for a week in September about 20 years ago...would love to read any accounts of or comments on, recent visits. Looking at a hotel in Recoleta, and allowing my partner to relax while I go out wandering during the day..then we will try to find great places to eat at night, and hopefully fit in a milonga if we can fine one that is hot to late at night and not totally oriented toward tourists...

We've taken a day trip to Colonia last time so will not do that again.......would be lovely to see an opera at Teatro Colon or maybe a futbol match..is that fun for people who are not soccer fans..just the atmosphere??? I do understand that ciekts are almost an impossible quest...

ekscrunchy, like you we have traveled the world. The worst experience we ever had on any international trip was in Buenos Aires where we were followed, harassed and targeted by locals. We took advice from a local who offered to help us and relocated to a safer part of the city, Recoleta, that had wonderful restaurants.
Next we traveled to Chile and it was so much nicer and safer there.

Goodness that sounds horrific! How long ago was this?

I'm planning to stay in Reoleta so maybe it will be much better.,
