Hi. We're two retired Peace corps volunteers who will be flying to Buenos Aires to meet a tour. We're planning on going a few days early. My husband, an RPCV in the cattle program, would love to visit one of the Argentinian ranches, (estancias I think they're called in Argentina). Does anyone have any recommendations on a visit to an estancia? Thanks!
We had a lovely "dia en el campo" at La Bamba de Areco in San Antonio de Areco. This was in 2012, but I see it's still open and still getting good reviews. It's very easy to get to San Antonio de Areco from Buenos Aires by bus. A lot of estancias offer this type of experience- for us it involved some horseback riding/round up sheep, meeting the polo ponies, watching a horse whisperer show, and then a parilla/bbq. I'm sure you can ask to personalise if you have particular interests.
Thank you Cat VH! San Antonio de Areco sounds great!
We're planning on booking a tour of southern Argentina, so we'd like to do an overnight estancia stay prior to or after the tour, (which both begins and ends in Buenos Aires).
We've been looking online to gauge an approximate range of how much it would cost to do that for 2 people to see if it would be feasible. I know that price depends on season, (right now, we're thinking February), and what you want to do. Mostly, I guess we'd be interested in gaucho culture/how estancias are run vs. US ranches, (my husband's family had a ranch), riding horses, maybe some bonfire/folklorico activities.
Does anyone have an idea of how much it would cost, (an approximate range) for a couple to spend a night at an estancia 1-2 hours from Buenos Aires? Also, we're wondering what it would cost to travel to and from Buenos Aires? Do any of the estancias help with arranging transportation? We'd really rather not del with international license/renting a car.
