I wonder if anyone is going to Sao Miguel, Azores in the next month or so. And if you are, I'm looking for a big favor.
(Note: I have checked in with Carl, who wrote the wonderful Azores guide, and he provided some great info for me, but isn't able to solve my problem.)
We visited the island in November, and I lost my purse. Amazingly, it was turned into the police there in early December, with most of the contents intact. Unfortunately, neither the police or the consulate there is able to ship it back to me. The consulate recommended either FedEx or DHL to pick it up and mail it to me, but both of those companies would charge far more for this service than the purse and contents are worth. I'd really love to get it back, because several things inside have sentimental value, and the purse and wallet are nice.( I've already replaced the credit cards, passport, driver's license, etc.)
If anyone will be there soon, and you were able to retrieve it and carry it back to the US to mail to me, that would be fantastic. Otherwise I'll have to ask the consulate to donate it. I'd reimburse for US postage, of course.
