We are flying on United from IAH to Frankfurt where we change to Lufthansa and continue to Amman. Looking for anyone with experience with similar situation with transfers to Lufthansa and the necessary covid records and declaration forms. It is quite mind shattering at this point. We were vaccinated and boosted here in US. So can I just show my paper copies of the vaccine? Not sure about this declaration form either. Is this a Lufthansa form or one specific to countries. At this point, I am so exasperated that I will book no further trips abroad until travel becomes a little easier. It is a real pain right now. We leave in a few weeks but trying to sort out what I need to do. I have checked the website and spoken to Lufthansa but still left with questions. Any help appreciated.
Assuming you are all on one ticket...We transited through FRA in December on our way to Egypt. Started with United from the US to FRA, and then Lufthansa from FRA to Cairo. We never left the secure area, so no forms were needed. No one in FRA checked anything except our passports. We simply found our next gate, and were on our way to Cairo. Not sure if this is exactly what will apply to your situation, but that's what happened for us.
ETA: I believe they checked our covid test reports at the Lufthansa gate before we got on the plane to Cairo because at that time, Egypt required a negative test for entry.
Thanks so much for your reply. Just wondering. Things may have changed since you traveled but maybe not. I see that Germany requires the NAAT covid test for transiting and Egypt required the PCR covid tests for entry. If that was the case for you, did you have to have 2 tests to finally make it to Egypt after the Frankfurt transit? Thanks again!
We only needed the negative PCR test to enter Egypt, which was checked at the Lufthansa counter in FRA before we boarded for Cairo.
Things may have changed by now, but that was what happened in Dec. I remember finding info online that said transiting passengers through Germany would not need a negative test. I had this website bookmarked, so it must have been what I checked for official info. Info on transiting is toward the bottom.
Our negative tests were checked in the US before we boarded the plane to Germany. They were the same PCR test results we used to enter Egypt. Looks like you can transit now with vaccination info or recovery certificates.
We just returned from Amman last week (Feb 22). We transited thru Frankfurt both ways.
We needed to show our passport, vaccine card and Health Declaration QR code (explained below) at check-in here in the US before getting our boarding passes. (The Health Declaration form is required by Jordan). We didn’t leave the international area in Frankfurt.
At the Lufthansa gate in Frankfurt, they’ll check your passport again, ask you the typical covid questions (do you have a cough, fever, etc) and likely give you a Lufthansa boarding pass even tho you have a United one already. That’s what happened to us.
For Amman, you need 4 documents (I’m guessing you’re arriving after Mar 1):
- Vaccine card (passport control in Amman looked at it)
- Proof of travel insurance (nobody in Amman ever confirmed we had it)
- IMPORTANT: Health declaration form that you should fill out online (link is on Sherpa) and pay the 20JD for the arrival covid test. You will receive a QR code via email that you should print out or save to your phone. As soon as you step off the plane in Amman, you’ll be herded to an area where they’ll scan that QR code, swab your nose and send you to the visa line. They’re very efficient so this is really quick as long as you paid ahead for the covid test and have that QR code. You’ll get the results via text (they’ll confirm your contact number). They use WhatsApp so you should download that before you leave. We got our results about 4 hrs later.
- IMPORTANT Travel declaration form (also on Sherpa).
Returning home, we needed a rapid covid test the day before our flight to the US. You just need your vaccine card and passport to transit thru Frankfurt.
Hope this helps. I’ll be happy to answer any other questions about Jordan you might have. It’s a beautiful country and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
Jordan just changed requirements after March 1st and you no longer need PCR/ QR Code on arrival. I do not know, however, if this is still in place for unvaccinated travelers.
