Hi all, we've been thinking about a driving trip this fall to do some hiking among the fall foliage. As of now from our state, we can enter New York without quarantining. We've never been to the Adirondacks and would love to find an old-fashioned resort where we could do some moderate-strenuous local day hikes and then have a nice meal. A blazing fireplace in a vintage lobby would be bonus. Any ideas? Western Massachusetts also sounds nice but as of now, we would need to test ahead of time or quarantine. That could change, though, so if you have a favorite resort there, please let me know. Thank you
Try the Lake Placid area. We did a day trip there a few years ago from Saratoga Springs. It's a fun town with a number of lodging options. I have a friend that enjoyed hiking on Whiteface Mountain last year. SS is also a great town but not as much in the wilderness.
I agree with the Lake Placid recommendation. The area is beautiful and there are endless hiking opportunities. The views from the mountain tops are spectacular! I think we stayed in a Marriott in the town of Lake Placid. It was fine. The town is great - very casual and not schlocky or upscale. It all feels very comfortable and relaxing.
