5 hour layover in toronto

We have a 5 hour layover in Toronto on our way to Dublin. Should we stay in the airport or do we dare venture into the city?

Wellll, where are you coming from? Another Canadian city or internationally? If from Canada, it could take anywhere from 15-30 minutes to deplane and get to the arrivals exit. An international flight? Then you have to go thru Customs and Immigration first. Add a minimum of another 30 minutes ( double that if there are a lot of other jumbo arrivals).

Do you need to store your carry ons? Pearson doesn't have lockers. You'd have to go to the Travel Store, which does have short term storage facilities. Add another 15-20 minutes.

The fastest way downtown is the UP Express train. It runs from Terminal one, so if you arrived at Terminal 3, add another 15 minutes for the tram ride to the other terminal. Trains run every 15 minutes and take 25 minutes to Union Station.

So it could take anywhere from 1.5 - 2.5 hours to get into town. And you'd have to be back AT the airport 2 hours before your flight ( retrieve luggage, clear security), get to gate. That doesn't leave much usable time downtown.

Stay at the airpot. Pearson is a huge airport that takes a long time to get through. Toronto traffic can be on par with LA traffic.

Plan on visiting Toronto another time
