Insight Guides recommends starting your morning with breakfast at the Café Nimrod before walking south along this spectacular coast. I was there in July but began the walk from Gordon Beach to Jaffa Port. I didn’t feel Jaffa was a must see but did eat lunch at The Old Man and the Sea and don’t feel it’s a must-do. Do walk along these fabulous beaches though.
I also walked Rothchild Street and it was OK. The true draw in Israel is Jerusalem. Luckily there is a direct train from Tel Aviv (30-minutes). I would take a day trip to Jerusalem and a day trip to the Dead Sea to soak in the sea. My favorite part of this trip was a drive through the Judean Mountains. Email my driver Jamal [email protected] and tell him MaryPat suggested him if you want to explore Palestine (West Bank).
When?
Tour recs - none. Look for walking tours in Tel Aviv and Jaffa.
Sites/trips - Jerusalem and/or Acre/Akko.
Danger - be very careful crossing streets.
Note that the trains do not operate from Friday afternoon until Saturday night. Some lines may only resume operations on Sunday morning. It's about 1/2 km walk from the Jerusalem train station to the light rail which will take you to the center of town and the Old City.
You can take the train to Akko (one of my favorite cities in Israel). From the station it's a short taxi ride to the Old City. There are several sights I recommend - the White Mosque/el-Jazzar Mosque, the Arab market, the Knights Hall/Crusader Fortress and a walk along the city wall on the sea - and some very good fish/mediterranean restaurants.
