Wide Feet, need arch support - looking for a shoe I can wear with a skirt

Going to Paris in October.

I wear Adidas Boost sneakers for lots of walking - they fit well, very support and I love them.

My main priority is comfort, so I am taking my Adidas Boosts, I also have a nicer pair of Rockport sneakers that look like Keds but are really support

I'd like something like a really supportive ballerina flat, or dressy lace up shoe that I could walk distance in, wear with a skirt ( and not look completely like a dweeb ).

I have wide feet and a very high instep - so I don't think ECCOS will work for me . I've been looking online and trying on shoes like crazy. I have some very comfy sandals, but think they will be too summery in October.

Any ideas ?

I’ll just concur with your thought about Eccos. I have a very wide forefoot, have tried several styles and they are just too narrow.

No advice for ballet flats or cute shoes...I just wear my athletic shoes all the time.

Also...just want to make sure you are familiar with Zappos? Free shipping, free returns. I generally order 2 different sizes at the same time, particularly if it’s a new brand.

Good luck on your search!

I have the same foot configuration as you and have used Mephisto brand shoes that fit well and look sharp. There is a Mephisto store in Atlanta with a broad range of styles. I don’t know what is available online. Good luck!

Since you’re going to Paris, there’s a Mephisto store in the rue Cler!

I have had good luck with Beezees. They are made by Naturalizer. Styles come in a wide width and cute,, IMO. The shoe has a arch piece that I find comfortable and provides support. I wore these shoes for an Ireland trip and they worked great. They can be machine washed but I let them air dry. Good luck.

I have had very good luck with Campers “Right Nina” ballet flat. I have a wide forefoot and high instep and cannot wear most ballet-type flats, but I can wear this style all day and walk a lot without end-of-the-day or next-day aches & pains. The leather insoles and wide elastic band across the instep both help. Bought my first pair at the Camper store in London, and since then - six years ago - have bought two additional colors from Zappos. Often pack a pair as my second shoes when I travel.

Try the SAS brand. They have a large selection- specifically designed for those of us with wide feet (and high arches, too). My Dad wore a man's 6 1/2 EEEEEE (yes, that is 6 Es). SAS was the only brand he could find to fit his foot.

I have the same shape foot. I have a pair of Skechers black "Bobs". They are a dressier, slip on flat.

KER,
I like my Keen Rose Sandals and have worn them in September/October, and also in Spring and Summer.

I think they are very comfortable but you can try them on, and see what you think.
If you live near an REI, you can try them on, then order them from Zappos! ; )

Have a wonderful trip!

I'll second Priscilla's suggestion for Keens and also suggest Alegria and Teva. Either their own website or Zappo's/Amazon, you can order, try them around the house, and free return shipping if they don't work out. Between Keen and Alegria I ordered 3-4 pairs at a time in different sizes and was able to come out with two pairs that do nicely for 10+ miles walking. Sadly I have found that Keen ladies boots are like walking on milk carton crates - awful checkered feeling on the bottom of my feet, even with Foot Solutions inserts. Alegria makes nice supportive shoes for wide feet and I don't even have to use my special arch support inserts in them. The Debra style is a slip on that looks nice but sadly the Bree is no longer made. I did find a pair on ebay and snapped them up. I have two pair of the Alegria Eliza boot but my favorite boot is still the Teva de la vina. I have those in tall and two low boots. They are fairly flat soled and I put my own insert in them. I also have some Teva platform sandals that I love, love.

Having been in Paris in October twice, you could get by with sandals but your boots might get more use. We had a good amount of cool weather but only two hot days while there so I wore my boots most of the trip. I don't even bother to take sandals since I never travel during summer.

When in doubt, you can always insert a Dr. Scholl's for flats with arch supports.

Shoe brands that might foot the bill (pun intended) are Merrill, Easy Spirit, Eddie Bauer, Skechers, etc. Just google "Ballet Flats with Arch Support".

I've been wearing Klogs, the Naples line, for the last year. These might be too dweebish for skirts, but they have some Mary Janes. I have a wide food and high arch, and the Klogs are terrific.

My feet are also short. Like a duck foot, short and wide. When the sales clerk measures my feet, they want to bring me a 10W. They often don't believe me when I say that won't go on my foot, and have to go back for the 11W that I wanted in the first place.

My favorite shoes are from Clarks. I have flats, walking shoes, heels, sandals and boots all from Clarks. They're super comfy and comes in Wide as well. I've never had a problem with their shoes and can walk all day without my feet hurting.

When I was in Scotland last October, I bought a pair of boots from their Clarks store and paid far less then I would have in the US.

Give them a try. You'll have happy feet!! Enjoy your trip!!

I have bunions and a wide forefoot, normal heel, a high volume foot. I wear my Teva Tirra sandals (bought 3 pairs) all summer, Merrell hiking shoes in W for the trails. I love my Naot Mary Janes when I want to wear a skirt. Great arch support. In California, where it hardly ever rains, I can wear them most all year. But I'm planning a trip to Italy for November-January. Freaking out a bit trying to find decent looking boots or waterproof shoes for the trip. That are comfy, obviously, for the daily miles.

Just came upon these yesterday -- Duckfeet! Anybody tried them? They look amazing, and I guess I'll have to try, though there's no free return shipping: https://www.duckfeet.com/en/

Finally decided: ( 4 pairs - but I have had back and feet issues - so need to switch off walking shoes. My travel wardrobe is black and gray with a it of lighter blue denim ( skirt ). I'll wear the heaviest pair on the plane )

Adidas Boost Sneakers - these are my usual go to day to day walking shoes - custom pair in black with black soles

Xerolox - Swiss sneakers from a local store that specializes in orthotics. These are very support ( good for my back ) and I will switch off with other sneaks for hiking, long walks. These are sea - green and very cute. Good with jeans, gray slacks etc. )

Ecco - Basic low profile city sneaker in red. Good for museums, moderate distances and a great tomato red color. Look great with my pants and skirts. I didn't think these would work ( wide foot ) but I went up a size and they are fine.

Klogs - also from orthotic store - Mary Jane style clogs, platform/wedge heel - black with trim and accents of dark blue sparkles. Just enough to be dressy and not cheesy. These are super comfortable and I have been wearing to work.

This orthotic store does custom fitting, so the Mary Janes have been rubbing my foot across the toe and they modified it today and put in a cork wedge.

Anyone hard to fit - I highly advise to go to a store where they can do some custom fittings.

Looks like you found some winners. Just to add my personal favorites that are orthotic but stylish are the brands Aetrex and Orthaheel/Vionic. I have tried those places where they fit you for shoes and have never had any luck. These two brands are my go to for travel shoes for my picky feet.

There’s a brand no one seems to have mentioned, Altra. The zero drop heel, superior cushioning, and super wide toe box make these remarkably comfortable. If you don’t need Rx orthotics, a new brand of inserts,Cadence, offers terrific support without arch weirdness.

I have the same problem. I found a pair of Clark's Cloudsteppers that have a Mary Jane appearance with one diagonal strap across the top. I wore them the other night and they were great. I bought at a Clark's outlet store in size 11M although I frequently order online as I recently started buying a Wide. good luck! I will be wearing to Spain in October.

I bought a pair of ECCOS, I can't remember the style. They're a slip-on with a slight wedge, stretch foot and leather toe cap. Old Lady cute. But I absolutely hate them. They still hurt my feet if I do much walking.

Another $100 mistake. That's the problem with shoes. You really don't know what will work until you wear them for a while.
As a former retailer, I just can't return used shoes or anything because I made a mistake. It's just not right or fair to the retailer. It's like eating a dinner, then telling the restaurant you didn't like it and don't want to pay.

Just returned, we averaged between 8 and 10 miles a day of walking.

The Ecco's were super comfortable.

the Xerolon and Adidas were good as well. I would switch these off every day or every time we went back to room.

The Klog Mary Janes were comfortable, but started cutting across the top of my big toe. I had to stop wearing them.

I was very happy since I do have troublesome feet,

I have smallish, wide feet at 6 1/2 wide with a high arch and have a morton's neuroma. I'm on a never ending quest for shoes that don't make my feet sad. Today at DSW, I scored some Jambas, with a great sale price. I didn't even need a wide width. I will be wearing them like crazy over the next few days since I leave on vacation soon. They are kind of "sandalish" and a bit like mary janes, so slightly out of season for southern Spain, but I DON'T CARE!!. I feel like they redistribute my weight back a bit more to the heal which is absolutely awesome. The feel is like a less severe earth shoe if anyone remembers those. I am a happy girl right now.
