I am looking for some lightweight waking shoes for easy walking in India. Has anyone has any experience with Ryka? I need arch support.
One person's heaven is another's hell, because everyone's foot is different. You need to try them on to know. I'm glad you aren't asking about sandals. You definitely don't want to be walking around the streets in those.
Shoes are a very individual thing. I have somewhat-higher-than-average arches, and a local shoe store suggested I try On shoes. They're Swiss. There are many models, but all of them cost over $100 per pair unless you stumble on a close-out somewhere. They're very lightweight and have extremely cushiony soles, which helps a lot since I walk a great deal when traveling. I replace the original On inner sole with a pair of Aetrex insoles (model W7700) for some extra arch support. That combination keeps my feet happy through over 800 miles of walking on my summer-long trips.
The On shoes I've used (just 2 or 3 models of the many available) have had very light outer material; there may be some leather, but there's also man-made material. The models I've used are not suitable for rural walking, much less hiking. The material would rip easily if you walked through brush. I don't know whether the company makes all-leather walking shoes. It does have a few waterproof models.
I have been wearing Ecco Soft 7 lace-ups; great for cobblestone streets, and look good with both trousers and skirts. Very comfortable, versatile and durable. I've never been to India, but have worn them throughout Europe, and here in New Mexico. You might consider checking the Birkenstock website for inserts; reasonably priced.
I suggest looking at the Keen website. Suffered from plantar fasciitis until I discovered Keen shoes.
Have lace ups, loafers, boots and sandals. Loafers, lace ups and sandals have been to London, Paris, Belfast, Dublin, NYC, Washington D.C., Miami and Havana.
Pricey, comfortable and durable.
My most comfortable pair of shoes are Ryka running shoes which have great arch support. I'm not a runner but use them for walking because they fit my feet better than the walking shoes. On my recent trip I added Abeo orthotic insoles to them which provided excellent support for miles of walking on pavement. They also slip out of the walking shoes easily and I have used them in my hiking boots too. Years ago I went to India and walked mostly in Teva sandals because the temples we visited required everyone to take off their shoes before entering.
