Travel Boots for teens

Any suggestions on waterproof boots/shoes for teens boys? We are going to Germany in February and I want to get them some waterproof shoes in case it snows. They normally only wear sneakers, but with all of the walking around we will be doing and the possibility for snow, I want to get them something that will be comfortable and keep their feet dry. TIA!

With the possibility for snow, make sure that whatever you get has a good grip on the bottom. My husband just wears Rockports that are not old man looking:) Our son would wear them:) Or you could go with a hiking boot. Whatever you do, get them soon so they can make sure that they are comfortable. A hiking boot should not need to be broken in if it fits right. The key to staying warm will be wool socks. So buy those and have them try on the boots with those as they are thicker than regular socks.

Near an REI Co-op store? Go there, otherwise contact REI Co-op staff by phone for advice.

Brooks makes waterproof trail runners if they prefer sneakers with a grip. I also suggest checking out REI.

Merrell makes waterproof sneakers (Moab) with vibram soles. I have worn the same pair for years in rain and snow and on sidewalks and cobblestones without issue. They are also my go to shoes for all day walking in Europe.

Sierra.com is another good source for this type of shoe. Nordstromrack.com carries a lot of Merrells. I find the sizing very consistent across that brand.

Sorel has a number of choices, and can be found at Sierra Trading, referenced above, at discounted prices. How fast do their feet grow? Good luck!

My sons wore LL Bean snow sneakers throughout their high school years in Minnesota.

They are teens. There is a certain fashion involved to them. Let them wear what they feel comfortable in. It may snow, it may not. If they want their sneakers, so be it. If their feet get wet, so be it. It’s not the end of the world.

This is my thought, too. I seldom see teens wear anything but their normal shoes all year round. If they are open to wearing something else, have them pick out a pair. If not, spray their current shoes with waterproofing.
