Thursday Boots “Captain” and Allbirds Treebreezers

We are planning a 5 week trip for next spring, visiting Italy, Switzerland and France.

I’m looking into the Allbirds Treebreezers for daily walking, any reviews of these for walking miles a day in?

Then we will spend over a week in Interlaken Area doing mild hiking through the whole area.

I’m looking into the Thursday Captains boots because I don’t currently have any boots, and would like to buy a pair that I’d actually love and use at home as well, but wondering if these will work for climbing around a bit in the region. Any thoughts?

I have a pair of Thursday Captains and I love them. Super comfortable and they have a great non-slip sole. For extra arch support, which I need in nearly every shoe, I use very slim hard plastic arch supports which are not full length. My only minor complaint is that the tongue seems to slip a bit and don't stay straight, even when the boots are tied tightly. Not a big deal when they are under jeans, dress or casual slacks, but it does annoy me a little when I where them with tights and skirts or dresses.

I now always take my Tree Breezers with me, but not for long periods of walking. They are so lightweight and smoosh down in my luggage. I like them for in the morning-going down to breakfast before I put my walking shoes on, or even at night-for going out to dinner. But they wouldn't be good for long distance walking.

I’m another one that thought the Allbirds were great until a walked a couple of miles in them. As for hiking, I really like the comfort and look of women's Oboz Sapphire low for rocky trails.

I’m the odd one out here re Allbirds! I have 8 pairs. Both the tree and wool sneakers. I can comfortably walk approx 10-15 kms a day in mine, and they’ve accompanied me on one very walk-y trip to Europe. I’ve used mine primarily for city walking and basic trail walking. My husband feels the same. Allbirds are his fave walking shoes ever. I think it’s very dependent on what your feet need, and like another poster said, they’re an excellent company when it comes to dealing with returns. Good luck!

I must be another odd one out too!
I have had a pair of Allbirds Tree Skippers for several years, my daughter has too and we find them very good for walking in. This year we used them in Italy in June, walking for kilometres and again in France and Germany. We both find them very comfortable, and another family member has some wool sneakers which she wore in Europe a couple of years ago. I am looking at buying another pair, probably Tree Runners this time.

I love my Allbirds and have found them to be very comfortable with all day walking on cobblestones, etc. In fact I'm on a trip now and I only brought one pair of Wool Runners. Plus I like that you can get the dark blue and black ones with a dark sole - I find they look good all day and at night too so I don't have to bring a second pair of shoes. Also I find that the Wool Runners are quite comfortable in spring weather so I wouldn't worry about it being too warm for them in spring.

Allbirds makes a good shoe. I have a pair of the original wool runners that are good for hanging out, but not for long daily mileages. Wore the shoes to China several years ago and they felt like they were lacking in support especially when compared to New Balance. I tried two others, but had to returned them. One heck of a return policy.

With Allbirds I find their non-running shoes don’t have enough support, but their running shoes do. (Note that what they call “runners” aren’t for running). I have several pairs of “dashers” and “flyers” (both wool and eucalyptus) and use them for walking and shorter runs (less than 5 miles) on pavement. They are the only shoes I take on city-focused trips, where I use them for walking and running. I’ve had their trail runners, too, and they’d be ok for easy hiking on established trails.
