Shoes for WW 1 sites

Do we need to worry about muddy conditions walking through any of the various sites at the Somme, Ypres, Verdun etc. In October. I

have heard that trenches are very wet/muddy. Thanks in advance.

Yes they were very muddy and wet, and trenchfoot was rife. Bullets above, and muddy trenches below, and bombs and shells falling from the sky.

But that was 100 years ago.

I have visited many of the craters and trenches and have never been bothered by mud. If it has rained recently the floor will be wet but my experience is that there is no more puddling than on normal paving of sidewalks/pavements or lawns. If conditions are too bad the facility will be closed.

I wore the same shoes visiting the WWI sites as I always do when I am on vacation -- the same ones I wear around the house. The locations we went through are mostly overgrown with grass and are not so difficult to walk.
