Basic seasonal sale, get what you need.
REI's big, BIG sale is their Anniversary Sale which is in May. Good time to get shoes, tents, camp equipment and apparel.

Prices being similar-to-equal, I'll always choose retailers that have a broad, well-staffed, brick-and-mortar infrastructure established and an established, good reputation.

Exactly.
I got some hiking pants at REI when I was home in June. Just tested them out in Balestrand on Friday, they were perfect !!
