Post Trip Shoe Review

We have returned from our two week visit to the UK. We spent the first week driving around the countryside, second week in London.

Based on recommendations here, I had purchased Oboz Bozeman Mid Waterproof shoes. These turned out to feel like too much shoe, too heavy. (I discovered this after my return window closed, so will probably try to sell them somewhere)
Next I tried the Oboz Bozeman Low and the Oboz Jeanette Low. These were very comfortable, with the Jeanette being the lightest weight. I decided to take both on the trip.

We averaged 4-5 miles of walking each day during the first week (2 days in Bath, climbing Glastonbury Tor, Cotswolds, climbing Dover's Hill, 3 castles in Wales, and a day in Keswick). During the London week we averaged 8-10 miles of walking each day.

The shoes performed wonderfully! They were supportive, comfortable, and secure. They did not look out of place with the merino dresses/leggings that I wore daily.

Final verdict: Highly recommended.

Mary Ellen, thanks for posting! I haven't tried the Mid Waterproof shoes, but I do have some similar ones that I bought and have not worn because they were too heavy. But I'm really glad you liked the Oboz Low shoes. Those are my favorites although now you have me intrigued with the Jeanette Low. So I will definitely be checking those out! Thanks!

Thanks for the review! After my rainy stay in Scotland this spring, I am a convert to waterproof shoes.

More thumbs up for OBOZ (thank you!!):

After reading the discussion thread here about Oboz, I went to my REI to try the Bozeman mid (Maryellen you had just given them a thumbs up, I believe). My REI didn't have the Bozeman anymore but had Sypes. I liked the Sypes, so ordered the low and mid Sypes to try in the color I wanted. I could only find a mid Bozeman in REI's 2nd hand--so about 1/2 price. All were waterproof versions.

When shoes arrived, I had just fallen and scraped from my ankle up, so it was hard to tell how comfortable the shoes would be without painful scabs. A few weeks later, I ruptured my plantar fascia. As that healed, I found the Bozeman mid and the Sypes low made me feel very supported. I wore the shoes as indoor shoes, only, to get a feel for them and for the support. The Bozeman mids are a lot of shoe, but because of my foot still healing, I decided I should take both Sypes and Bozeman (rather than my Clark Mary Janes as a second pair). In the end (wee morning hours before leaving on trip) my husband and I both decided to take only one pair of shoes each---those on our feet---to lighten our suitcases. It worked out fine for us, this trip.

I also will be trying to sell some shoes as I'd ordered a pair of Keens (shoe box too narrow) and Bozeman Mid insulated (same size but fit too small) that don't work. The day after the window closed, I realized I'd ordered them from Amazon, not REI....

Since I am now an Oboz convert for my narrow heels/wider toes, I will need to try the Jeanette next. Lightweight sounds appealing.

Because my days of barefeet in the house are now behind me, I will continue to wear Oboz in the house (sanitize the bottoms) alternating with SAS sandals.
