Merrell Moab Ventilator Gortex is my pick for travel...

The best shoe I have used for long walks/hiking is the Merrell Moab Ventilator Gortex. They also make it in a boot but I prefer the lower cut version. I bought a pair of these for our 13week travels of Europe back in 2013 and they were great. They travelled through fifteen countries through rain, creeks, minus 15degree temperature on the Matterhorn Glacier, etc. The Gortex kept my feet perfectly dry and I found them very light to just keep wearing and wearing... After Europe they saw a couple of trips to New Zealand...
Unfortunately they wore out and have retired to be my footwear for mums & dads farm...
But as I loved them so much I bought a new pair for my travels last year through Canada for a month...
To be honest I can't see myself wearing anything else for travelling...

I just bought the women's version of the same shoe. So far they have travelled through my neighborhood on my walks with and without the dogs. They really are comfortable and I plan to take them with me wherever I go.

Gary, how do they fit? True to size? Width?

Ditto , everything Gary says is our experience as well . My wife and I have been using this shoe since 2013 also and they are perfect . I have a wide foot and the extra width is perfect for me , I don't wear anything else .

Hi Stan.
Put it this way I have a reasonably wide foot but the Moab's fit great. And they seem to mould to your foot the more you wear them. My originals I virtually wore them out but they were still the most comfortable footwear I have ever had. As I'm in Australia we have less range than in the USA (I just checked online), so you will have a better choice of Moab. I see they even have a "wide range" if needed. And I can thoroughly recommend the gortex range as thats what I have only bought, and they have kept my feet perfectly dry.

Just bought a pair myself on recommendation from Janet on these boards. Added an orthotic insert and they are a dream. Since they are waterproof, they can get quite warm in the subtropical heat of my home, but they will be perfect in Europe. They will keep my feet nice and warm.

Thanks for the shoe information. I am having trouble telling just which Moab it is, there are several on the Merrell website. Do you have a product number. Thanks

Hi @thrasharound. I'm thinking you may be from the USA. I just checked on the Merrell USA website and they have a lot more range than we have in Australia. And they are slightly different. By the looks, the closest to the Australian version is the Moab 2 GORE-TEX® (J06041) from US Merrell...

I too love the Merrell Moab Ventilators. I did not get the Gortex, as I was walking the Camino de Santiago. I walked 600 miles as I completed 3 camino. I was concerned that my feet would get sweaty and not dry out to the Gortex. My feet were dry almost the whole time with zero blisters. The one day I had wet feet is when I was walking at 5am with zero sun yet. It was pouring rain, and windy. I couldn't see very well and came up to a very deep puddle. I tried to get around it but it just kept going and going. So I had to end up walking through it. No shoe would have saved me. The water was well up my chins. That was really the only day I had wet feet.
