I have a variation on the walking shoe question: My DH has flat feet - very flat. This makes his feet roll inward, and makes him prone to bunions. It's hard for him to find good walking shoes, because he needs support, but most support shoes have high arches, which leave him limping. Anyone else out there have any experience? He has one pair of New Balance that he likes, but they're worn out now, and the style has been discontinued. He also has a pair of SAS that he can tolerate, but not all day. Thanks for your help.
My husband has the same issue and he uses New Balance. In fact, I use New Balance as well. They have many great styles so if one has been discontinued there are plenty more to choose from. I love the support built in to all of their walking shoes. I just bought a new pair recently and they feel good right from the first use. I love the support. The arches are not too high. www.newbalance.com
Have him go to the walking Company, they will have him stand on a computer that will tell him exactly what type of arch he needs. And what shoes that will be good for his arch. I have flat to med arches so I know what he means when he tries to wear an aggressive arch. It is like stones in your shoes. For women's shoes I wear either Cobb HIl or Earth. But I know brands like Merrell and Rockport have both men and women's shoes.
I have flat feet, and wear a size 15A shoe. I went to Walmart and stood on a machine that gave me the number of a shoe insert that would help my feet. And the insert is great feeling.
My every day shoes are Sperry Topsiders, and I've had dozens of pairs over the years. My other shoes are Merrills--the most comfortable shoe ever.
If your DH has feet so bad that they're rolling inward, he really should see a podiatrist to see what'd be best for him. If I had shoe problems, I'd be wearing the Merrills for travel. But there again, I don't have bunyons.
Crocs. There. I said it. Please don't beat me. The most comfortable shoe my flat feet have ever encountered. Tried many different types of shoes over many years and now wear almost nothing else. I can walk miles, all day and feel terrific. One day in Paris two years ago I decided to try my "fancy" shoes (Clarks) for a change. Ripped off 2 pounds of TP from the Louvre men's room, stuffed my shoes to the brim. Truly almost had to crawl the last 1/2 mile back to the hotel. No other shoes go in the suitcase anymore. Good luck!
Great suggestions! Thank you all. I don't know if he'll go for Crocs, but maybe I can suggest that he just try a pair...
After the suggestion for the Croc's which for bunion and flat feet might actually be great and they do have other style's now that are not the typical Croc. But also Keen is another brand that comes in a wider toe box and not a high arch. Let's face it, it is hard to get stylish and comfort, but in the long run no one remember's your shoes, but you sure remember painful feet.
I have flat, narrow feet. Basically a couple of skis for feet. I well remember walking through the mall with my mother for an entire day through the department stores in the 60s trying to find ONE pair of dress shoes that would fit my feet as a child. Fortunately, access to shoes has increased greatly and the options are now limitless for those in that situation. Here in Texas, western boots are considered stylish, which is wonderful as you can get them quite narrow and they provide mucho support.
For our upcoming Euro trip, I wanted to look into an alternative to the western boot and appear to have found the answer -- Hotter boots. I purchased a pair of men's Hotter Focus black boots in January and having been wearing them very often since them. Gore-Tex lined, and simply the most comfortable shoes/boots I have ever worn. Get on their email listing and you will quickly receive a substantial discount from the listed prices. Similar to the games many retail sites play. List for xxx, but never really sell at that price.

I have extremely flat feet. In fact, my left one was so bad, and rolled inward, I finally had a surgery (call an all-American procedure for some strange reason) that moved my heel over, replaced my tendon and ligament...basically rebuilt my whole foot. Even after that I have flat feet. And yes, I love Crocs. They are one and f the most comfortable shoes for me. In summer I wear Crocs flip flops that are just awesome! I have 3 pair. Wear them all the time. When it's cooler I wear the standard duck feet with socks. And, my other favorites are Keens. I love the Venice H2, but your husband might prefer the Newport. I will hunt up some links and post them.
The Crocs Modi flip is the very best most cases nor table arch. It's nice in brown.

Very best to support my arch.
Patient probably should start with a Podiatrist consult.. One possible option is custom orthotics. A low cost OTC alternative would be off the rack insoles like Superfeet insoles: http://www.superfeet.com/en-us/insoles-and-sandals
