LOWA boots

Has anyone tried these for hiking? I saw signs in Switzerland to try them for a day, but we didn't have time to stop and get measured. I see several places in the US carrying them now locally, and also online.

Ginger, Lowa is a respectable, established brand of hiking boots. But IMO, the brand is less important than how they fit your foot. I wouldn't spend the big bucks for hard core hiking boots without a consultation from some experts: REI or some outdoor hiking specialty store, definitely not online. See the movie "The Wild" with Reese Witherspoon if you want to know why I say that.

I have a pair of Renegade II GTX® Lo Ws by Lowa, used them in Costa Rica 2 times and several times hiking at home. Great boot, I like low top hiking boots. I paid 160.00

I've used Lowa boots for hiking for the last 25 years, and wouldn't consider anything else. Just finished a four-week hiking trip doing long day hikes across the Swiss and Julian alps, and the Dolomites. If you have an REI store near you can try a pair of Lowa's and if you don't like them REI will accept a return.

They do have an amazing reputation and a lot of good reviews! The others are right though - the best thing for you to do before buying is to go try out a few options and see how they fit. It might seem like a waste of time, but it makes all the difference when it comes to comfort.

I'm going to try some on.

Last two years I used Merrell's hiking boots, and they work well for a few hours, but then my feet begin to hurt, so I'm in the market for something that's going to give more support and cushioning. Not sure if these will. We did hike for 6+ hours a day, so not sure if that's why I couldn't wait to be out of my Merrell's.

I actually used a pair of Propet Camp Walkers during my recent trip to Sweden and Norway. They were great during the rain because of the waterproofing. What I really liked about it was the removable footbed which allowed me to use a higher premium orthotic. Found a review here for them

When looking at the Lola, they look like a durable, heavy duty boot. Do you guys know if the footbed is removable? I might be interested in getting a pair.

You really have to try them on. Years ago, I bought a pair of Lowa at REI. I wore them inside my house for a day and they just did not fit my feet right. I ended up exchanging them for some Vasque boots which is the brand I now wear. As previously mentioned, if there is an REI in your area, they carry a variety of boots and are flexible on returns and exchanges.
