Light weight shoes to change into

Looking for men's lightweight shoes. The change into sort. Have an older pair of Champion (allegedly cross trainers--though I doubt they could be used this way, which they don't make anymore). These have memory foam soles and can't be more than a pound. My real shoes are Merrell MQM Flex. I am a fan and Merrell just seems to fit all the time. I'd like something with a bit of an arch. Looked at Merrell alpine sneakers-- maybe too form fitting. I can't really try them on as I wear a 7-7.5 men's.

I recently bought a pair of Hey Dude deck/boat women's shoes (the Wendy Navy Chambray) at a local shoe store for my trip to Scotland (mostly as a backup pair) and they are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. Last night I walked for 2 miles in Edinburgh in them and they felt great both at the beginning and the end. I love the look of them and the comfort is wonderful. I wouldn't wear them for a full day of walking around in Europe cities (although I've worn them around the house and yard all day), but as a backup pair, they can't be beat. They are also VERY lightweight.

They have the same types of shoes in men's styles as well. https://www.heydude.com/collections/mens-shoes?

FWIW, I have a bit of a high arch and they feel fine on my feet. They also run a titch big - I usually wear a 10 and got a 9 in these.

The Sketchers Go Walk arch looks good. Can't find them locally, so ordering online. I used to have Sketchers but they were flat footed and not so good. I am ordering with lacing as I don't do well with slip ons. I might try and find the elastic lacing, where you can kind of slip on.

I also had flat footed problems with my first Skechers Go Walks so I bought an arch insole to put in them and they were perfect. My newer Go Walks have an arch so I didn't have to do that.

@pleiades, I'm not sure if you often order shoes online but I recommend Zappos. Free shipping to you and free shipping back to the company. You just have to drop off at UPS. I have horrible feet and if I'm trying something new will often order 2 sizes so I know I have to send one back.

I'll also add that I have swapped out some of my laces for Hickies fasteners. In spite of the awful name (did no one tell them??) they are awesome fasteners. I've not been able to use them in all my athletic shoes as some come up too high for me to get them on with the HIckies in.

Maybe take a look at AllBirds. Foam sole, knit upper. Super light.

I went to Walmart and found extremely light airport light walking shoes. I have yet to try them in anger, and I don't plan on a huge amount of walking on my imminent trip to the UK. They seem promising around the house. $15 cad. Can't beat that. I wear similar size to you but wide.

Like @Scudder, I suggest Allbirds as a comfy second pair of shoes. These were recommended by the forum in 2017 when we were planning to visit Ireland - and I still have them!

I made one mistake: I guessed my shoe size, rather than having them measured at a local shoe store before ordering. Turns out one foot was a 3/4 inch larger than the other, so one shoe is snugger than the other. We're planning a trip to Scotland this fall, so I'll be getting my feet re-measured before ordering again.

Happy Trails!
