Let's Talk Crocs

I love my Crocs. I wear them almost everywhere. I'm going to wear them at the theater in London. Will anyone be cross with me if I do? It's just that they're waterproof and so lightweight and comfortable. Will it be a serious faux paus to wear them everywhere I go in Europe?

Thank you,

WhateverLA

I know people swear by them as being super comfortable, but I do not think they are attractive. With that being said if you have foot, hip or knee problems and must wear them or be in pain then YES wear them. If you do not have any problems and just like to wear them, then for the 2-3 hour theater visit I would wear something more appropriate. There are plenty of attractive, lightweight, good for your feet and comfortable alternatives than Crocs. If you search Zappos for Crocs you will see what other people who do use crocs like to wear also to give you some ideas.

Wear whatever you want and is comfortable for you. I have seen people wearing all manner of sandals
and even flip flops to the theater and thru out Europe.

Hi there,
The fashion police aren't waiting at the door in London or anyplace else in Europe (although there is the Monte Carlo casino). I've seen everything from spike heels in the Louvre to combat boots at the theater, so no worries- wear what's comfortable for you. I do think that you might suffer from some foot fatigue or injury, though, because Crocs aren't the most supportive shoes and could get a little sloppy on your feet after constant wear. Certainly take a fave pair with you, but check online with, say, Zappos.com or planet shoes.com to find other shoes with the features you like that could give you additional support. Let me emphasize "lightweight" here. It sounds like you'll be on an extended slog-you'll be glad you brought another shoe option.

Thank you for your replies. I still have time to consider bringing a pair of regular walking shoes.

Sometimes older crocs can be slick on wet pavement so make sure yours still have some tread on the bottom. I also think they would not provide enough support on uneven pavement. Even wearing supportive walking shoes I've tripped a couple of times in the last week and saw a young woman take a complete header yesterday in Bath on an uneven bit of pavement. If you have the option of walking shoes I would at least pack them.

I have had several pairs of Crocs, but not a single pair of the ubiquitous clogs. There are some really nice casual shoes that you would never guess were Crocs and present footwear that are very comfortable and descent looking.

Yes it will, but who cares? You'll never see those people again and they won't see you. Nobody will be cross with you but they may laugh at you (or with you if you're a good sport). It'll give the locals something to talk about at the local pub. They pretty much already think all American tourists are slobs anyway.

Well, I'm neither a slob nor an "ugly American" - I'm in France now and I'm so glad that I am wearing my Crocs, many "locals" are wearing them and it's been raining and there are puddles that I can cross easily! I guess my footwear isn't to impress other people, but to provide me comfort and walk-ability (and sensibility as well!)

So an A++ for Crocs!

If I wore these things for more then half an hour my entire trip would be ruined. I found them to be the MOST uncomfortable shoes I have tried in a long time with no support LOL!

For me, Crocs are extremely comfortable and gave me plenty of support. Haven't worn them in years, but I saw lots of people all over Europe wearing them. Bruges has (or had) a store just for Crocs with many different styles.

We dressed neatly, but not "dressy" for our London theater night ("Billy Elliott" at the Victoria Palace Theater). People sitting around us wore everything from suits and evening dresses to T-shirts, shorts and sandals. Got the feeling that most in the audience were tourists. Bottom line: whatever you're comfortable with.
