I've got a pair of hiking Merrell size 7.5 with orthodics and want to purchase a pair of Taos Trophy sandals which only come in whole sizes, should I go up a half size to size 8 or go down to size 7.
thank you

I always go up but not familiar with either shoe.
I always go down half a size for sandals. Even in Merrill's---I wear 6.5 shoe but my Merrill sandals are size 6. Also a 6 in sandals by Mephistopho, Ahnu, and Teva.
Not familiar with Taos, however.
My Merrell's are a little tight vs. other shoes--short and tight in the toes.
Of course, I'm wearing a U.S. Size 15 men's shoe.
I world go to Amazon and read the reviews of both shoes.....my Merrell Viking boots are the same size as my regular shoe size.
A friend who mail orders boots will often order two sizes planning on returning one even if he has to pay for return shipping. Poor fitting boots are expensive in the long run if your feet get damaged.
That said, the store's customer service may be able to advise you as to fit being plus or minus.
She is buying sandals, not boots. But buying two sizes and returning one will resolve the question. Try Zappos for free shipping and free returns.
I went to Amazon and looked at them. Their site says that 85% of the people say the fit is "as expected". I did not have time to read the reviews, but you could and it may have people who comment on the fit. I also have to wear orthodics, so it helps me to look on Amazon and read reviews even if I purchase them somewhere else. Generally speaking, if the sandal is true to size (as expected), I would go up a size for a shoe. (can't wear sandals, so not sure about that one.)
Thank you to everyone who took time to respond. I've decided to order a size 7 and a size 8 to see which fits better and return the size that doesn't fit, with free return, i can't go wrong. merci beaucoup!
Merrell Gardena sandals have the Q-form footbed.
They have been discontinued and are hard to find, but I did see some white ones when searching. I have three pairs I bought before they went extinct. But i am still wearing the old ones, so the other two pairs are still in the box.
I would not take a thing sandal to Europe, but I do work out in mine ( elliptical trainer) and have walked miles in them at a California beach town. They are my most comfortable walking sandal, but just too casual for Europe.
