CNN Underscored reported today that Nordstrom has Hoka running shoes, walking sneakers and hiking boots on sale.
I don't understand the hype about Hoka. I dislike the styling with the thick soles. The women's styles are mostly pastel colors or white, neither of which would work for me.
daisy, my daughter and son-in-law both love Hokas because they both run (especially my daughter who runs ultra marathons) and Hokas are excellent running shoes.
Most people don't buy shoes just for the styling. I love my Oboz shoes, but mostly because they are supportive and fit well. I would never buy a pair of shoes just because I like the look of them. That said, when I went to check out the sale just now, I saw a lot of Hoka shoes in dark and/or vibrant colors.
Thanks for the heads up, Wanderlust58—I will let my daughter know about the sale.
I keep thinking I need to try a pair. The thick soles have discouraged me, it’s almost like you could fall because they’re so tall. And I’m a walker not a runner. But my husband recently got a pair and likes them quite a bit. My last RS tour there were more New Balance than anything else but still there were Hokas and Brooks. I’ve got Saucony, which I rarely see on anyone else.
I think it depends on your feet. I have foot issues and my podiatrist recommended them. I think they are ugly as sin but would have put up with that had they actually helped. But they made my feet worse. Lots of people swear by them though. My podiatrist admitted they do not work for her feet either. She wears Brooks.
My husband just got a pair and so far likes them. He has some issues with padding on bottom of feet and the cushioning he likes. But he did say that he is not quite used to the thick sole.
I run half marathons and I hated my Hoka's. They gave me blisters.
I just say this point out that while they are good shoes no shoe is "one size fits all" for me with a narrower heel than ball these just don't work
Few years ago I thought they were too bouncy and I couldn’t “feel” the ground but now a convert. Tried them again at running shoe store where they do foot pressure scan and measure your feet with that old fashioned foot sizer and knowledgeable salespeople who can recommend appropriate shoes for you. Highly recommend if you have access to specialized store. I don’t even run but have back, hip, knee, feet issues so willing to go a bit out of my way for the expertise.
