Good for you. Remember it is the shoe that best fits your foot. It can be any brand at any price. Our shoes of preference for our feet is the Ecco brand but we pay nearly $200. Never found anything that works better for us.

That is good to know! Those Clark's look very similar to the ones I'm taking Clark's Morse Tour, which I find extremely comfortable, but haven't walked miles in them yet. I also have PF, but I don't think these Clark's have good as support for that as I would have liked...but everywhere else they feel SO GOOD!

I also have never paid so much money for sandals EVER.

for plantar F I've found that using inserts and support socks are more important than the shoe.

I wear this all the time and it really helps

There are also heel cups called Tulis that you should get if you don't already have

You can also experiment with 2/3 and 3/4 size insoles.

The only shoes I take on travel: ECCO 'Track II Moc Low' Oxford (about $200)

  • Great support for walking, also for short hikes
  • Gore Tex lined -- waterproof AND breathable
  • casual, but passes for dress-up venues
  • removable insoles
  • plenty of "toe" room (for my troublesome feet)

I have this (or ECCO variations of) this shoe for 20 years. Buy at Nordstroms or REI and return them if you are not happy (no-fault option). For maximum comfort, take a few weeks to break.

(same shoe Rick wears - see for yourelf, check out his videos :)

I have bad knees and usually even up hating whichever shoes I bring for Europe. I am also a shoe person and swear by Fluevogs. For our 5 1/2 week trip, I bought a pair of $45 CAD mesh shoes from Eddie Bauer and they have been fabulous.

They have criss-crossed elastic over the foot and Velcro straps over the instep and behind the heel. I wear them with sockettes - which previously I wouldn't have been caught dead in but they can't be seen by me, I also replaced the insole with an orthotic one.

They have been fabulous in the sun, rain - they dry quickly - and everything in between. I bet I can wash them in the washing machine to get out the dead ocean beasties smell from a rogue wave in Brighton.

We walk 10 km a day and they've not let me down in 3 weeks. Including walking hiking trails (paved, cobbled and screed) and biking in the rain. If only they were black . . .

OMG, just found them online, also in black. Eddie Bauer Send

Phred...oh my, those are some heavy duty heel cups! I have replaced all my footbeds with Pinnacle Power Sport inserts and wear a heel pad on top of those. What do the compression socks do, do they kinda act like the athletic tape? I found the key to curing and keeping PF away is arch support 24/7...which means no bare feet ever and now all my shoes cost $80.00 + (even my flip flops) and all have fantastic arch support and a deep heel cup and I still do the stretches.

I have had a pair of Ecco Mary Janes for 14 years now. The only thing wrong with them is that the velcro is separating from the suede that makes up the shoe. I swear by them!

Tulis are pretty much the industry standard in heel cups, my podiatrist started me off on them. And if you think those look cool, now there's a heavier-duty version I saw in a pharmacy.

Those half compression socks seem to put enough pressure on the arch to stop the pain. It's like taping only much, much simpler.

If you really want to get into this, there are videos on Youtube that demonstrate a scraping technique for PF. That's a bit too intense for me.
