Just got back from 17 days in France and England.  Lots of walking.
Let me start off by saying I'm a fat guy with wide feet.
Few years ago was having foot pain problems and went to a good running shoe shop for advise.  They sized me for a shoe that was a full size larger than I've always worn and told me about how your feet will expand during the day.  I thought I'd be walking like I had flippers on.  Needless to say they put me in a pair of walking/running shoes that were wonderful.  after about 4 months in these my foot pains were gone.  But I want shoes.  After researching I decided to give Rockports a try.  Ended up just going up a half size with these with the wider widths.  My 2 favorites are the "world tour"  with these the foot bed is pretty stiff so I put in good footbeds.  and on this trip I wore the Elite Encounter.  the footbeds are quite comfy,  but only last a few months.  I like to treat the leather with Nikwax to give them some water resistance.   Well after a few weeks I give very high marks.  106 miles according to my iphone,  Over 6 miles a day with no problems.  One other thing I might add.  I bought 3 pair of Thorlo socks.  the extra padding was wonderful.  I didn't use the other socks I packed,  just kept cleaning these and using them. Thanks for sharing your experience. Another poster once said that happy feet make for happy travels and I totally agree.  Very glad your new shoes worked out.  I can totally relate as I went through the same trials before I was directed to the right shoes.
