Just got back from 17 days in France and England. Lots of walking.
Let me start off by saying I'm a fat guy with wide feet.
Few years ago was having foot pain problems and went to a good running shoe shop for advise. They sized me for a shoe that was a full size larger than I've always worn and told me about how your feet will expand during the day. I thought I'd be walking like I had flippers on. Needless to say they put me in a pair of walking/running shoes that were wonderful. after about 4 months in these my foot pains were gone. But I want shoes. After researching I decided to give Rockports a try. Ended up just going up a half size with these with the wider widths. My 2 favorites are the "world tour" with these the foot bed is pretty stiff so I put in good footbeds. and on this trip I wore the Elite Encounter. the footbeds are quite comfy, but only last a few months. I like to treat the leather with Nikwax to give them some water resistance. Well after a few weeks I give very high marks. 106 miles according to my iphone, Over 6 miles a day with no problems. One other thing I might add. I bought 3 pair of Thorlo socks. the extra padding was wonderful. I didn't use the other socks I packed, just kept cleaning these and using them. Well I hope this helps someone!
Hi Yo Pauly,
Thanks for sharing your experience. Another poster once said that happy feet make for happy travels and I totally agree. Very glad your new shoes worked out. I can totally relate as I went through the same trials before I was directed to the right shoes.
