Any experienced travelers try the Fly London brand shoe for walking in Europe? I love these shoes so much; I've been able to walk for miles in Washington DC without issue, but I know that does not guarantee they'll do okay in Europe. We head there in early November, so I am thinking of a low boot in this brand. It has a platform, which I love for how it looks, but don't want to be stupid. If you have experience with Fly London shoes in Europe, would love to hear from you. Thanks!!!!
I love Fly London for travelling (otherwise I'm a die-hard Fluevog fan) and have posted several enthusiastic bits about how fabulous they are--I took black Yel laced wedge boots to walk all over Poland and then on to Prague--2 weeks solid, one pair of boots, nary a blister or rub after walking many miles each day over cobblestones. The wedge heel cushioned the uneven impact of the cobbles perfectly, yet not so high that I felt wobbly, and they were perfect with jeans and also a skirt and tights. I bought a similar style in brown so I can see both being my perfect travel boots forevermore.
So glad to see that others love this brand! I just ordered my 7th pair of shoes / boots in this brand--Yip boots. Cannot wait to get them. I only read about this brand less than two years ago, but now that I have found them I do not intend to wear any other kind of "heels". I will slowly be getting rid of all other shoe brands in my closet because no others fit and feel like these. I debated on which style of ankle boot to get and finally settled on the Yip because of the reviews. I have the dressy Yema (suede toe and sides out) but these are strictly for non-rain occasions when I am dressing up. The Yip will be more of an all-weather boot--especially if waterproof with Nikwax. Good luck, let us know what you get.
One thing I forgot to add is that I first add previously is that I learned about this brand was from reading that a travel guide wore this brand while "on the job" giving tours throughout Europe, and that this was all she ever wore.
I'm considering getting a pair of Ylva for my "dressier" pair of shoes for Scotland next year at the end of June. Do you think they will be appropriate for there that time of year? I know it will most likely rain while I'm there and am trying to find appropriate walking shoes for the wet and possibly cooler weather there.
Ylva is nice and sturdy, definitely holds your foot in place with just a bit of your toes showing. If you want them for city walking, etc they should be fine for that time of year, but if you'll be hiking out in nature I'd say a closed toe is a better choice, especially if rain is likely.
Thanks Christa! I'll be doing the usual tour stuff rather than hiking through the countryside (this time anyway!) so these sound exactly like what I'm looking for. I appreciate the feedback!
