Favorite Insoles, please recommend.

Hello.

I like to wear insoles when I travel. I have had days where I walked almost 30,000 steps. I always bought the Dr. Scholls insoles, the gel type but I was wondering if there’s something out there that is better.

Although I know everybody’s feet are different, mine are not very delicate: but after walking around 12,000 steps my heels and the ball of my foot protest a bit.

Thanks.

I can’t advise you on what insoles to use but maybe your doctor or podiatrist can! I came home from Spain and Portugal with miserable feet and ankle pain. When I complained to my doc, he looked at my feet and said I definitely should not use Dr. Scholl’s. I purchased what he suggested on Amazon for $36.00 and they have helped me a lot.

I swear by the ABEO orthotics by The Walking Co.

https://www.thewalkingcompany.com/

I’ve used them for almost 20 years. They have different types based on your footbed. They fit in most athletic/walking shoes. They’re a little pricey, but I think my feet are worth it. My podiatrist approved them but of course you should check with your doctor.

I also saw a podiatrist and custom insoles were recommended and made all the difference.

Another Superfeet fan. My husband has ditched his custom leather orthotics in favor of Superfeet. They make several different models for various purposes and shoe type.

Powerstep Insole ProTech Classic works well for me. Recommended by my podiatrist when getting custom orthotics and wanted a spare pair not quite so expensive.

I have had Spenco insoles for years. This brand offers many styles of insoles. You will need to go to a comfort shoe store to ask for recommendations. Wearing the wrong type may hurt.

I have used Powerstep insoles for years. Just recently bought a new pair in preparation for an upcoming Europe trip.

I like AllBirds shoes, and have purchased their insoles for other shoes. Wouldn't say they are super supportive, if you need that, but they provide a nice cushion.

Both my husband and I have had good luck with Aetrex inserts . We need arch support and they do a good job with that.

ABEO are excellent as are Sole, which are sold by Shoe Mill.

+1 for SOLE. After a bout of plantar fasciitis, I put them in every shoe I had. No recurrence.

I’ve worn Superfeet insoles for years, and they’ve been great for me.

Thank you for all the recommendations! I really appreciate it. As I said I don’t have problems on my feet but I like the support insoles give during my travels.

I used Dr Scholls for years but on my last trip I feel the quality definitely took a dip and my feet were killing me, paired with the fact that I made a rookie mistake: my shoes were terrible.

Check with a store that sells SAS Shoes. SAS has an excellent insole

Hi Geraldine,

The best thing to keep feet happy are great shoes! There is a big difference between a $75 and $150 pair of shoes. Many might disagree, but as someone who has suffered from bunions (poor choices in my younger years), elevating my shoe purchase has resulted in happy feet. For the shoes that are more difficult to fit, such as sneakers, I purchased the Good Feet system about a dozen years ago and are really happy with the insoles. Another helpful tip when traveling is at the end of a long walking day, elevate the feet above the head (for me, that means laying on the bed and putting my stockinged feet up on the wall). This helps to reduce swelling. If there's a tub in the room, consider soaking feet in cold water for a bit. Or even a combination of the two.

I just bought a pair of Fit Flop Lulu Adjustable Leather Sandals and love them. They have this wonderful footbed and arch support that is comfortable right out of the box. Plus, they're super lightweight!

I realize this is a lot more information than your original question and I hope something helps in your search!

Happy Travels!

I agree with bringing walking footwear that is a little more expensive and ( hopefully! ) better quality.
Shoes really are the most important part of your packing for a trip.
My feet are healthy, but do get tired and a bit swollen at the end of a day of walking in the heat on cobblestones in Europe.
I scrub them every night in hot water, then rub in some rich lotion and also raise them up high for a couple of hours.
Good to go by the next morning.
I’ve found Dr. Scholls inserts work fine for my feet.

Have you considered Stride Soles? I absolutely love my pair for when I travel. As a 65/yo it really makes a difference

I tried half of the brands suggested due to multiple foot pain. I like Pedag (off the shelf) and Upsteps (DIY custom made). I don't suggest anything from big box stores.

Last summer I bought a pair of sandals from a company called Treadlabs (started by the founder of Chaco sandals). They have great support and are comfortable walking in for hours.

Treadlabs has a series of insoles that come in different levels of stiffness and arch heights so you can customize them more than the standard off the shelf offerings from other companies. They also offer metatarsal support pads that work with the insoles which I need for long hikes.

I have tried their stiffest carbon model and find it may give too much stiffness for a running hiking shoe but works well with a stiffer hiking boot, i have also ordered a softer pair and think this will be a good match for athletic shoes.

The main benefit here is the different available arch heights.

My husband and I have worn Arch Crafters insoles for years. https://archcrafters.com/ They will send you a box with foam and you make an impression of your feet, send it back and a couple of weeks later, get custom insoles. Neither of us have any diagnosed foot problems, but I absolutely will not wear a sneaker, boot, or any other closed shoe without them. The store ones are okay (I wore both Super Feet and Aetrex for a long time), but Arch Crafters are far superior.
