Extremely wide feet (10 6E)

I have an extremely wide, exceedingly flat set of feet. Shoes are a serious challenge for; I have to have my dress shoes specially made by Alden. I normally wear an 8.5 or 9 in 4E width, but your feet swell when you walk, so that proves to be too tight for a day on my feet. There are too places to get the widest sizes.

1) New Balance, which makes a couple models in a 6E.

2) Wideshoes.com. They carry Hitchcock, which makes wider sizes, some New Balance, and a few brand that makes wider sizes especially for the website.

I took my hiking boots from New Balance and found myself footsore but not in pain at the end of the day. Wideshoes.com has a better selection in that size range, but I don't care for most of them.

Remember that because your feet swell (even if you don't have wide feet), you should buy shoes one full size larger than normal if you plan to do a lot of walking. My boots were size 10, width 6E, and they were comfortable without an extra bit of space.

I feel you pain:( I have wide feet as well; 4E. New Balance is pretty much the only game in town when it comes to wide hiking boots. You may want to check out Wolverine as well but they only go up to EW.

I sold shoes for 12 years, and one company that made wide widths (up to 6E) is Dunham. My husband doesn't go really wide (maybe a 2e) and he's had a few pair of Dunham shoes that he liked very much...actually, I'm fairly sure Dunham is owned by New Balance...the 8000BK (black) or BP (brown) was a nice oxford type, waterproof walking shoe.

Ryan,

6E isn't "normal" but its not rare like hens teeth either.

whats really nice is that you have the www/google at your fingertips now where as 20+ years ago, not so.

If you are having issues finding shoes to fit you, you can call/email any manufacture and ask. It doesnt cost you any postage and they will usually reply.

some companies dont make that wide, some do but dont advertise it and/or some retailers dont stock it due to the fact it will sit for a looooooooooong time on the shelf.

happy trails.
