Does anyone have any experience with city walking in Dansko Shoes? I have a month long trip planned for June 2015 and most of my walking will be in cities.
I wore my Dansko clogs for four days in Amsterdam and had no issues. Love those shoes!
I love Danskos, but I found the soles of my last pair to be too slippery on the giant wet round cobblestones at Versailles the first week of June a few years back. Part of the problem was the height off the ground.
But there are lots of Danskos that might work for lots of walking, especially if you wear socks that will wick away the moisture.
The ones I had were Pippas, like this -- http://www.amazon.com/Dansko-Pippa-Womens-Clog/dp/B005DVHOCS -- but in black. I can't recommend them in any kind of slippery situation or on cobblestones wet or dry.
I don't recommend it! Actually Dansko shoes are great for people who do a lot of indoor walking and are on their feet for hours but not so great for walking outside in all sorts of weather and the sort of pavement you are likely to encounter in European cities. They don't have the grip you need for pounding the pavement in various weather conditions like rain nor for cobblestones in many great tourist cities. They may be fine for a nurse who walks a lot indoors but not really for someone spending a month walking on European streets.
It probably depends on which style. Dansko does make a couple of lace up sneaker type styles now. I have the first model they came out with and while I did not wear it to Europe it would have been fine. It does have a lower heel/sole. I also have the Dansko Professional Clog and those would NOT have been fine for Europe for the reasons cited by others.
I love my danskos for work but hated them on vacation. As others have said they suck on cobblestones, wet ground, or uneven ground. They also have a tendency to roll your ankle (due to the sole being thicker) making you more likely to sprain your ankle or fall.
I'm a big Dansko fan (clogs and sandals), but I don't use them for traveling. Too slippery on cobblestones as well as being awkward and heavy to pack.
Danskos are not all clogs. They make many styles with lower height, excellent for walking on cobblestones and pavement. I never go to Europe in the summer without mine.
If you are concerned about traction on slippery surfaces, look at the "Provence" collection, such as the Pasha sandal:

My own are a bit dressier, like the Pasadena collection sandal called Drea:

The newer ones are a little lighter....I wear them every day for work but find the inserts to be a little hard.... also, I'm on my feet all the time at work so they are great for that. They are a little too tall to wear on cobblestones because I find myself rolling my ankles a lot!
No issues with my Dansko clogs on uneven pavement, but then I've got bendy ankles under normal circumstances and what rolls to one side quickly returns to plumb so I'm not likely to notice if there''s more of that kind of movement than usual.
