I've read both of the socks forum but that seems to focus mainly on socks for walking/hiking. Does anyone have any experience with compression socks for travel to avoid swollen ankles?
Don't ask here, ask in a medical newsboard. It's frequently noted that you should not wear these without the advice of a doctor.
thanks for the info
I wear compression socks when I fly and my feet don't swell. Before I started using them, I remember the dread at the end of a flight that I wouldn't be able to get my shoes back on.
The socks travel or sporting goods sell are generally fine to wear without an MD unless you have medical issues. I find they cut down on the amazingly uncomfortable toe swelling.
You can also get them at most pharmacies.
After asking that question here last year, I was given the same advice about asking your doc. She told me 15 to 20. I bought some cute ones on Amazon, put them on tight before we boarded the international flight. They kept my feet warm, and no swelling at all upon arrival.
Hi Myra,
Always good to check with your doctor if you have medical issues. That said, you can purchase them OTC at pharmacies and there are also lots of choices online at nurse hosiery supply sites. I have worked on concrete floors most of my life, so I am used to wearing a quality support panty hose and prefer that style, but they do come in different lengths. I only used mild support (8-15) and they not only helped on the long flights, but were also great support for days when I did lots of walking on those pesky cobblestones in Europe. I would highly recommend, and I think your legs will thank you.
I always use them to hold down the swelling. I have used full length and calf high. The full length work better but can be hot. The calf high works pretty well. This was after visit my MD.
