Budget Plantar Fasciitis Solution

I am trying out this budget solution, which seems to be working out to my delight: At PAY-LESS Shoe Source, I have found a pair of CHAMPION Women's sneakers (they are called the Ramp Sport Oxford, but have a nice thick sole) and they are extremely LIGHTWEIGHT! I have added to this pair of shoes a Walmart-purchased pair of Dr. Scholls's Plantar Fasciitis inserts - and now I'm wearing this combination this whole summer.

I know that some expensive walking shoes can have the disadvantage of heavy weight, but these Champions are very light. Also, (and this is key) I put on these shoes + insoles first thing in the morning; I don't let my bare feet hit the floor; they get socked-and-shod as I swing out of bed.

The shoes were about $29, and the inserts were about $13. Like I said, "Budget."

I hope this combo works for you! I use CorrectToes toe spacers and have had good luck when I wear them consistently. Their inventor, Dr Ray McClanahan from Portland OR has some good information on his website.

PF is awful.

Good for you, Shelley. I think putting shoes on first thing in the morning is part of the answer. I helped my plantar fasciitis wearing birkenstocks and halflingers. Whats hard for me is shoe free households (like my sister's house) stocking feet just dont cut it

I feel your pain, Shelley. I am dealing with this myself. I hope your plan works. I am icing my foot 3 times a day, doing the stretches 3 times a day, purchased more expensive orthotics and shoes, plus ibuprofen. Things have improved dramatically for me but I have more work to do to get back to normal.

Shelley, that's terrific.
I "cured" my Plantar Fascitis with custom orthotics and never going barefoot for about 1 1/2 years. It's been over a year now, and while I still never go barefoot (except in the shower!) , I have switched to a cushier Dr. Scholl's tri-comfort orthotic insoles. And, so far, I am still going strong, although I have the custom orthotics (and packed them along on my last trips to Europe) in case I need them again.
(And if your inserts are the same as mine, they are much less expensive at Target!)
Happy trails ... and happy feet!

After three years of OTC orthotic inserts, I am currently PF-free. My inserts were from an orthopedic surgeon's stock, but not made to order, and took a little time to get used to.

Thanks for the tip about bare feet.

Doric8, most people that have shoe-free homes are hoping to reduce germs that are brought in from outside the house. The best thing to do would be to have a pair of inside-only shoes that you wear at their house (and maybe yours). It would be a house shoe but something that is supportive for your foot. In the summer I wear Vionic Tide flip flops and in the winter I have a pair of Drew Brandi slippers that I love and those are worn only around the house.

edited - unfortunately neither is a budget solution, but they work better for me than traditional house slippers.

The best budget approach is exercise the foot till the PF is cured. It takes awhile but it can be cured. Anything else is simply treating the symptoms and not the problem.
